Chapter 394: The Switch

Yan Qingwen never engaged in unprofitable ventures.

Joining the evaluation team now meant familiar games nearby, organized guides in hand, and a small risk in exchange for a large reward, as well as Professor Song's map.

But once the base moved to another location, surrounded by unfamiliar games and without any guides, taking companions into a game would be a venture with only a slim chance of survival, making it not worth the cost.

Bai Youwei thought for a moment, then turned to look at Shen Mo: "How about we go to your dad's place first?"

Shen Mo pondered briefly, then said, "Let's go back first."

"Huh?" She was stunned. "Aren't we going to see Uncle Shen?"

"We'll go another day." Shen Mo said, "I'll let him know in advance another day. If so many people suddenly show up, he might not be prepared."

"Oh…" Bai Youwei responded.

She felt a little concerned, and couldn't help but feel that Shen Mo wasn't telling her everything.

On a hot afternoon, two men were leisurely smoking under a tree, occasionally glancing at the tall building behind them.

Their clothes weren't clean, and they looked travel-worn, but they wore a pair of white gloves on their hands, so white they were dazzling.

After finishing a cigarette, they finally saw the person inside come out.

The two immediately went up to him and asked, "What took you so long? Did those guys make things difficult for you?"

The man who came out of headquarters curled his lips. "So many people died, they had to ask carefully. Don't worry, even if they suspect me, they have no evidence."

"Those idiots probably couldn't figure out how they died even if they racked their brains!" His companion laughed triumphantly and eagerly asked, "How was the harvest this time? I heard the base's elites went, so they must have had a lot of props and puzzle pieces on them, right?"

Another companion was also excited. "Since they dared to enter the game, they must have brought things to save their lives!"

But the man frowned, his face not looking good.

He took out two things from his pocket, a piece of chalk and a colored string, both props.

"That's all?" His companion couldn't believe it, took the props from his hand, and said angrily, "These two props are useless! You used one of our puzzle pieces and only brought back this garbage?!"

The man's face turned cold upon hearing this, and his expression instantly darkened.

Seeing his expression, the other companion quickly winked at his comrade, and advised, "He didn't know it would be like this. Besides, you agreed to go to Game No. 21, so what's the point of saying this now!"

These two seemed to be quite wary of the man, and even if they were dissatisfied, they didn't dare to show it easily.

"I'm just anxious… I didn't mean to blame anyone…"

"Let's go, let's go back first. Let's just say we were unlucky this time… Those people are stupid too! How could they dare to enter the game with just these few props in their hands! How stupid?!"

The man's lips curled up slightly, and he said softly, "Stupid? I don't think so."

He opened his other hand, revealing three puzzle pieces in his palm.

"Aren't these puzzle pieces?!" The companion exclaimed, "Why didn't you take them out earlier! We thought you really went for nothing this time!"

"Take a closer look." The man picked up one of the pieces, and with a little force between his fingers, the metal puzzle piece snapped in half.

"These puzzle pieces are fake." He threw away the fragments, gently clapped his hands, and his white gloves were spotless.

His two companions looked at each other, confused.

"What's going on?… Why bring fake puzzle pieces into the game?"

"Rip off, to eat, rip off." The man glanced at them faintly. "Before we made our move, the puzzle pieces on these people had already been switched."
