Chapter 188: The Giant Monster

These strange flesh masses possessed an extraordinary ability to regenerate.

Therefore, if they wanted to dig a tunnel or an exit here, it would be absolutely impossible.

Shen Mo stabbed his knife into a few more spots, roughly determining the location of the main artery, and led the group forward.

The more troublesome issue was the skinned little monsters. They would encounter small groups from time to time. These monsters not only attacked people, but also gnawed the flesh masses until they ulcerated, causing bleeding and pus, blocking the blood vessels, and thus affecting Shen Mo's judgment of the main artery's direction.

Having finally dealt with one wave, they turned a corner at an intersection and discovered a new wave of monsters. Crowded at a bus stop by the side of the road were at least thirty skinned monsters, bright red, clinging to the bus stop sign, benches, and billboards, which had already been turned into lumps of flesh. They were engrossed in their frenzied gnawing, thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Tan Xiao's palms were damp as he gripped his baseball bat, preparing to strike again.

Teacher Cheng's forehead was dotted with a light sheen of sweat, his cane held horizontally in front of him.

Shen Mo stood at the very front and glanced at his companions beside him…

If they continued fighting like this, when would it ever end?

His gaze fell back on the monsters. Their flesh was a bright, vibrant red, their heads large and slippery, their limbs fragile and thin, and their teeth densely packed…

They weren't without weaknesses. These monsters looked terrifying, but their heads would explode with a single blow, and their limbs would shatter with a stomp. They didn't have much offensive power, but their ever-increasing numbers were a problem.

In an environment without food or water, they couldn't afford to waste their energy needlessly.

Shen Mo took a step back.

The people behind him also retreated behind the corner.

He whispered, "These monsters have no eyes or ears. They probably judge our location through slight vibrations on the surface of their flesh membranes. In a moment, we can try to see if we can lure them away…"

Everyone agreed, nodding their heads, when suddenly a tremor came from beneath their feet!

A very subtle tremor.

Like some kind of large creature crawling across the ground.

Everyone's hearts lurched, and they immediately turned to look behind them. They saw a gigantic "snake" appear at the end of the street! It was rapidly crawling towards them!

Everyone's faces changed!

Calling it a "snake" wasn't quite right. It resembled a giant maggot more! It had no eyes, no ears, and its head was ringed with densely packed teeth. Its thick body occupied almost the entire road!

Shen Mo had no time to think. He scooped up Bai Youwei and rushed into a shop by the roadside.

The others hurriedly followed him inside.

Within seconds, the giant maggot passed by the shop, crushing Bai Youwei's wheelchair, which had been left on the roadside, and continued to crawl forward!

Shen Mo's brow furrowed. He suddenly put Bai Youwei down and quickly chased after it!

For a moment, Bai Youwei felt as if she had suddenly been placed into a pile of flesh. She couldn't help but shudder violently, her face instantly turning pale!

Shen Mo had already disappeared.

He chased after the fat maggot and saw with his own eyes how the giant maggot swallowed the skinned monsters near the bus stop one by one. Its body wriggled and crawled, agile and fast, quickly disappearing around the corner of the street ahead.

Shen Mo stood there for a moment.

The tremors beneath his feet diminished as the maggot moved away, smaller and smaller, smaller and smaller… until they finally disappeared.

He frowned, turned around, picked up the wheelchair from the roadside, and walked into the shop where they had just hidden.

When Bai Youwei saw him return, she almost burst into tears. Her eyes welled up, and she called out in a suppressed voice, "Give me back my wheelchair!!!"

Shen Mo was slightly taken aback. He walked over, helped her back into the wheelchair, and asked, "What's wrong?"

Why had she suddenly become so fragile?

Bai Youwei shed two tears.

Feeling the familiar, solid texture beneath her, she slowly regained her composure, though her face remained pale.

She closed her eyes, exhaled slowly, and said, "It was so disgusting, so disgusting…"

That was all she could think about.

The disgust had overwhelmed her ability to think about anything else.
