Chapter 136: Remove the First Word

Upon returning to the small hill, the Overseer was leisurely enjoying afternoon tea.

A small, white, round table, seemingly appearing from nowhere, held a delicate English tea set and a three-tiered golden cake stand. The first tier was filled with savory sandwiches, the second with scones accompanied by clotted cream and strawberry jam, and the third with beautiful petit fours.

This non-human entity was deeply versed in, and seemingly reveled in, human customs.

Seeing Shen Mo and Bai Youwei return, it set down its teacup with a hint of surprise, then rose with impeccable manners.

"It seems the two of you have chosen your flowers. This is much faster than I anticipated." It glanced down at its wrist, even though there was no watch there. "Hmm… you only took forty-five minutes, less than an hour."

After speaking, the Overseer looked at them suspiciously and asked, "Are you certain you've chosen the flowers you want?"

Shen Mo was annoyed by these in-game antics. Ignoring the question, he asked directly, "Can we put them in the vases now?"

The Overseer paused slightly. "…Of course."

Shen Mo placed the peony in one of the vases and then helped Bai Youwei place her lotus in another.

The Overseer's gaze lingered between the two, filled with curiosity.

It approached Bai Youwei, intending to strike up a conversation. "My dear young lady, your flower is quite beautiful. It seems you are already confident of victory in this competition, are you not?"

Bai Youwei smiled sweetly. "Not at all. I think his peony is even more beautiful. The peony is the king of flowers, after all."

Shen Mo: "…"

The Overseer narrowed its eyes, examining the flower Shen Mo brought back. "Hmm… Miss, you seem to be mistaken. The peony is a woody plant. This flower is clearly herbaceous. With its rounded, large, and heavy bloom, its delicate pink hue, and its soft, tender petals, this is a variety of peony cultivated a hundred years ago."

Bai Youwei blinked. "You're very knowledgeable. So, is the judging criteria based on the variety of each flower?"

"Of course not. The judging criteria is…" The Overseer's voice trailed off, as if realizing Bai Youwei was trying to trick it into revealing information. It smiled. "My dear young lady, you are quite unique. I detect a familiar scent on you."

Bai Youwei said with a serious expression, "I think your language learning system needs improvement. Otherwise, you would know that casually saying such things to a girl makes you sound like a pervert."

Overseer: "…"

Bai Youwei turned to Shen Mo, lifting her arm towards him. "Touch it. I've got goosebumps. Saying things like smelling my scent, it's so disgusting."

The skin on her forearm was smooth, white, and tender. Shen Mo retracted his hand with an indifferent expression. "It is quite disgusting."

The Overseer's eye twitched.

Having presided over so many games, this was the first time it had encountered such an unusual pair.

It began, "Miss, I believe…"

"Can you please stop calling me 'Miss'?" Bai Youwei interrupted.

The Overseer pursed its lips, striving to maintain its elegant smile. "Then, how should I address you?"

Bai Youwei thought for a moment, her tone suggesting a negotiation. "How about you remove the first word?"

Overseer: "…"

The corners of Shen Mo's mouth lifted almost imperceptibly. He reached out and ruffled Bai Youwei's hair. "Be careful not to provoke it."

"I was just joking," Bai Youwei said innocently. "This Overseer's appearance is very human-like, as if we can chat like normal people. You can't blame me."

"Such a unique joke," the Overseer said with a smile, though its azure eyes were icy. "However, our Overseer forms are not intentionally anthropomorphic. We simply choose forms that are convenient for interacting with players, making it easier for them to understand."

Bai Youwei pondered for a moment. "So, if you were to reveal your true forms, they would be existences that humans find difficult to comprehend?"
