Chapter 71: Mint

Bai Youwei comfortably ate a bowl of vegetable porridge.

The porridge was thick, and her mouth felt a little sticky after eating. She soaked two mint leaves in the glass jar and drank a few sips of mint water. It was cool and refreshing, making her even more comfortable.

Shen Mo was outside checking on the off-road vehicle. After he was done, he broke out in a sweat. He entered the room and saw Bai Youwei lying on her side on the soft latex mattress, squinting and drinking plain water. He couldn't help but chuckle, "You seem to be quite comfortable."

"Happiness is all about comparison," Bai Youwei said with a smile, holding the glass jar. "Looking at you guys running around, tanned and tired, while all I need to do is stay inside, eat and drink, of course I feel comfortable."

Shen Mo: "…"

After a few seconds, Shen Mo said, "As long as you're comfortable."

If she was comfortable, she wouldn't cause him any trouble. Now, he just needed to make sure she ate and drank well every day, took good care of herself, and then one day, he could hand her over to her mother safe and sound…

After that… what would happen to her?

This question made Shen Mo lose his mind for a moment.

He really couldn't imagine how Bai Youwei, with her personality, would live in such a world.

"Hey." Bai Youwei held the chubby glass jar and hooked her little finger at him.

Shen Mo walked over.

She handed him the jar. "Aren't you thirsty? Here, drink some water."

The water was clear, with two or three fresh green leaves floating in it, giving it a cool color.

"Where did this come from?" Shen Mo took the jar with one hand.

Bai Youwei pointed outside the window. "There's a whole patch growing in the flower bed behind the dorm building."

"We can pick more when we have time. Mint leaves are good for anti-inflammatory and pain relief." He finished in a flat tone and raised his head to drink the water.

Bai Youwei stared at his rolling Adam's apple.

After a while, she brazenly took his other hand and gave it a gentle squeeze.

Shen Mo drank his water silently. He didn't speak or move, but he glanced at her with a slightly stern look.

This kind of warning had no effect on Bai Youwei.

She simply ignored it and continued to pinch his hand. She felt a layer of rough calluses on his palm and poked them with her soft fingers, intrigued.

"The last time I touched it, I thought it was quite interesting… like a dog's paw."

Shen Mo: "…"

What kind of description was that?

Bai Youwei held his hand and pressed it against her face. The rough texture rubbed against her skin with a slight grit, a very strange experience.

And touch is often a two-way street.

She could feel him, and he could feel her as well. Quiet, soft, and docile…

The room was silent.

Shen Mo looked at her silently, the sweetness of the water and the coolness of the mint lingering in his chest. The atmosphere seemed a bit strange.

He wanted to break the atmosphere. But then he thought that it was rare for her to let down her guard, so he let her be.

Suddenly, there was a chorus of gasps from upstairs:

"Whoa! ---"

The two of them came back to their senses at the same time.

Shen Mo paused, then withdrew his hand indifferently. "I'll go upstairs and take a look."

Bai Youwei frowned and glanced at the ceiling, then turned away with a bored expression and silently looked at a clump of mint outside the window, ignoring him.

Shen Mo looked at her for a moment, put down the glass jar, and left.

The sound of his footsteps gradually faded away.

Bai Youwei kept her back turned, but her eyes drifted, drifted, until they unconsciously landed on the glass jar on the table.

She picked up the jar and, remembering how the man had held it with one hand, couldn't help but compare it with her own. She then moved closer to where he had drunk from and sniffed gently.

There was no smell.

She reached out with her slender white fingers, fished out a mint leaf from the jar, and put it in her mouth to chew on.

She felt a little bored without that person around…
