Chapter 14: I Won't Leave You Behind

The SUV slowed down after getting away from the scene.

Shen Mo stopped the car.

"Why did we stop?" Bai Weiwei asked.

A bottle of mineral water was handed to her.

She froze for a moment and took it.

"I'm thirsty after running around in the game." Shen Mo opened another bottle and drank with his head up. His jawline and Adam's apple rolled, a strong and firm curve.

Bai Weiwei looked at him for a while, then raised her chin and drank the water, small sips, like a lamb drinking by a stream.

Once she relaxed, the needs of her body followed. Not only was she thirsty, but she also started to feel tired, her muscles sore.

"This game isn't just a simple simulation of reality. The fatigue left in the body is very real." Shen Mo crushed the empty plastic bottle, making a crunching sound. "Let's not rush on the road. Let's find a service area to ask about the situation. It's best if we can make a phone call to Yangzhou."

He paused for a moment and added, "And charge your rabbit by the way."

Whether it could really release lightning or not, they had to wait until it was charged.

Bai Weiwei nodded.

It was necessary to find a place to rest. In their current state, if they had to go through another Tortoise and Hare race, they might not be able to pass.

Shen Mo started the car again, ready to go on the road.

At this time, Bai Weiwei asked, "What are you going to do if something happened in Yangzhou?"

Shen Mo was slightly stunned, his hand that was turning the key stopped.

Bai Weiwei stared at the cold outline of his side face and said calmly, "You only promised my mom to send me back to Yangzhou. You're not obligated to care if I live or die in Yangzhou. Besides, you have a mission. You should go back and report. We'll go our separate ways after we reach Yangzhou, am I right?"

She muttered to herself, her eyes gradually turning gloomy. "It's the end of the world. Who cares about who lives or dies? You came to pick me up out of responsibility, out of kindness. But if you just send me there and leave me alone, honestly, Shen Mo, you might as well let me out of the car now and let me fend for myself. I won't blame you."

The atmosphere turned cold.

But Bai Weiwei didn't care. She was always the unlikeable one anyway.

Shen Mo put down the car keys and turned around.

Bai Weiwei looked straight at him with her clear, black eyes, unflinching, her lips pursed in stubbornness.

"Come closer." Shen Mo hooked his index finger at her.

She frowned, leaned forward, and moved closer. "What?"

Shen Mo reached out and pinched her chin.

Her small, baby-fat face was instantly deformed, her mouth squeezed into a pout, and her stubborn expression became childish.

"…" Bai Weiwei frowned even more, cursing in her heart.

"Listen carefully. I'm only going to say this once." Shen Mo pinched her face, his tone like an impatient kind of gentleness. "I won't leave you alone, understand?"

"…" She turned her face away, unable to break free from his hand.

Shen Mo pinched her again, like a doll. "I'm asking you, do you understand?"

Bai Weiwei moved her lips. "Underthand…"

Shen Mo was satisfied. He let go of her, turned back, and turned the car key. The engine roared lowly.

He glanced at the back seat through the rearview mirror. Bai Weiwei was covering her face, glaring at him angrily.

The corner of Shen Mo's lips curled up in amusement as he drove off.

He had figured out Bai Weiwei's temper. She was the type who responded to tough love, not soft words. If you were nice to her, she would think you were sympathizing with her, pitying her, and would find all sorts of ways to be difficult. It was better to be fierce, it was simpler and quieter.

"I'm older than you. You should have some faith in me." Shen Mo said with a faint smile as he held the steering wheel.

In the rearview mirror, the girl's eyes were even more disgusted. She looked out the window coldly, ignoring him.

It seemed she hated him.
