Chapter 23: Help!

She had expected to face trouble after society collapsed.

But she didn't expect it to happen so soon.

As the men walked toward her, countless thoughts flashed through her mind. She suddenly remembered a lot of things.

She remembered her family doctor who would take advantage of her during every checkup. At first, she was too young and naive to understand, but later she realized what was happening and immediately told her mother.

However, the doctor turned the tables and claimed that he had been working diligently and never dared to slack off. He said that Bai Youwei was trying to make things difficult for him and was deliberately lying.

She did have a bit of a temper.

So the doctor's words seemed more believable. When her mother fired the doctor, she gave him a large sum of money to soothe his "hurt feelings from being tormented by the young miss."

Bai Youwei hugged the rabbit tightly as she thought about these past events…

She made a decision.

The three men stopped in front of her, their eyes scanning her body with undisguised lust.

They were dirty, sleazy, and their eyes were clouded.

Not only that, she guessed that these people were not very smart. They had survived until now entirely on their ignorance and primal savagery.

They were once marginalized and despised by society, but now they were the leaders of survivor groups, receiving respect and followers. What could be more intoxicating than such a transformation?

Bai Youwei sat up, supporting herself with her arms, and shouted in a panicked voice, "What do you want? Don't come any closer! Stay away from me…"

The restaurant next door suddenly fell silent.

All the small talk disappeared, as if everyone had suddenly fallen asleep at the same time.

Of the three thugs, one grabbed Bai Youwei's arm, another went to pull off her skirt, and the remaining one stood by, excitedly filming with his phone.

"Let go of me! No!… No! Help…"

She struggled with all her might, crying for help in a weak voice. The metal shelf beneath her creaked and groaned, mixing with the thugs' malicious laughter. In the silent night, the sounds were so clear, so piercing.

No one came to her rescue.

Humans, when their own interests were not at stake, were always generous. But at other times, they would display selfishness and indifference to the fullest.

Perhaps the commotion was too loud to pretend to be asleep any longer. The man with glasses came over from the restaurant, draped in a coat.

The thugs' movements stopped. One of them, a tall, thin man with a necklace, looked at the man with glasses with a particularly provocative gaze. He lightly tossed the knife in his hand, its tip pointing forward with a threatening air.

The man with glasses glanced at the knife, then at Bai Youwei, who had shrunk into a ball. He frowned, looked away, and said, "Keep it down. Her brother will be back soon."

The tall, thin man chuckled and glanced at his companions, his mouth full of sarcasm. "Did you hear that? Mr. Zhang told us to keep it down."

The other two grinned wickedly and replied in deliberately loud voices, "We heard! Keep it down!"

After speaking, they burst into laughter again, their arrogance reaching its peak.

The man with glasses' face grew even uglier.

But in the end, he didn't say anything more. He turned and returned to the restaurant, unwilling to get involved in this troublesome matter.

"Coward!" one of the thugs spat at his retreating figure, his eyes full of contempt.

Having challenged the authority of the leader, the thugs felt a great sense of accomplishment. But they didn't notice that Shen Mo had returned and was now standing at the supermarket entrance, his face cold.

Bai Youwei clutched the plush rabbit and shook her head at him imperceptibly.

Shen Mo's brow furrowed. He knew what she was thinking.

When they first entered the service area, they had charged the plush rabbit for a while. Bai Youwei probably wanted to test the power of "one-tenth of me" now.

However, lightning was not easy to control. Bai Youwei wasn't sure if she could direct it at a person as precisely as the Warden. She didn't want Shen Mo to get too close in case of accidental injury.

If its power wasn't enough, she could always call him for help later.
