Chapter 15: The Heart of People in the Apocalypse 6

The radio said the army was still days away. So, Xi Mufeng, Wei Xian, and the others decided to go out and gather more supplies. They wanted to fill Wei Xian's space as much as possible.

Lin Baobao and Huang Zhiling went with them. They didn't want to hide just because they were women. What they saw on the way to the Chen family's house made them realize how important it was to be strong. In this dangerous world, women couldn't afford to be delicate if they wanted to protect themselves and survive.

Chen Kaiwei, with his ice power, naturally went with them. But with everyone gone, what about the child? They couldn't take him with them. They had no choice but to leave him at home. Worried about his nephew, Chen Kaiwei finally went to the Lou family's door. Hearing that the Lou siblings weren't going out, he decided to leave the child with them. He felt more at ease this way.

Looking at the child, who was nervously clutching Chen Kaiwei's hand, Lou Ling paused for a moment. She smiled and agreed, assuring him that the child would be well taken care of.

"Thank you!" Chen Kaiwei said solemnly.

After they left the neighborhood, Lou Ling led the child, who was holding tightly onto her hand, back home.

As soon as they entered the house, they smelled rice. Someone was cooking in the kitchen. These days, Lou Dian wasn't planning on going out to kill zombies and train Lou Ling. Instead, he wanted to use this time to make easy-to-carry cooked food and store it in his space. This way, they could eat proper meals instead of those dry rations. Besides rice, Lou Dian also made steamed buns, dumplings, pancakes… all kinds of food made from flour. He even stewed various soups and stored them in containers, putting them directly into his space.

Lou Dian's cooking was pretty good, Lou Ling thought. It wasn't in vain that he always read that "Good Wife's Cookbook". However, he wasn't good at everything. At least when he made pancakes, they ended up burnt. She was the one who prepared the filling for the dumplings.

Lou Ling led the well-behaved child to the kitchen. Seeing Lou Dian busy, she took a small bowl and filled it with rice. Then, from the several plates of meat dishes on the side, she picked some and piled them on top of the rice. Finally, she poured some gravy over it, packing it until it overflowed. Lou Dian only glanced at it once and didn't say anything.

Lou Ling smiled and carried the bowl to the dining table. She lifted the child onto a chair and placed the bowl of rice and meat in front of him. "Luoluo, can you eat by yourself?"

The child nodded timidly. Smelling the aroma of the food, he swallowed and said, "Sister, can Luoluo save some for Uncle?" Since Lou Ling had given him those candies when they first met, little Chen Luosheng was very close to her.

Lou Ling touched his head. "Don't worry, your uncle will have food when he comes back."

The child was relieved and took the spoon from Lou Ling, eating with big mouthfuls. Since the start of the apocalypse, after being locked in the room by his mother, he hadn't eaten normal food. Now, this bowl of plain rice, which children wouldn't like before the apocalypse, tasted delicious to him. Originally, a five-year-old child was still at an age where they didn't understand much. But now, the cruel reality forced them to grow up. Seeing this, Lou Ling felt a little sad.

Lou Ling poured him a cup of warm water and put it on the table, telling him to drink when he was thirsty. Then, she went into the kitchen to help.

After the rice was steamed, they started making rice balls. They stuffed the rice balls with shredded meat, sausage, ham, and pickled vegetables, then wrapped them in plastic wrap and put them in Lou Dian's space. When they were done, the rice balls were still warm. When they took them out next time, they would still be at this temperature. Time in Lou Dian's space was frozen.

Lou Dian was butchering a cleaned sheep. The meat he took out from his space was usually processed pork, sheep, beef, chicken, duck, goose, fish… It was a complete collection. Lou Ling didn't know how he did it. It was like watching a skilled butcher at work. After a series of flashes from his knife, the sheep was separated into neat pieces of meat and bones.

Lou Ling was stunned. Lou Dian once again broke her perception of him. Could this also be the knife skill he practiced outside when he was in college? This was the level of a chef!

"As long as you're fast enough and use your mental power, most people can do it," Lou Dian explained gently. Then, his dark eyes curved slightly, and he smiled like a harmless angel. But the words that came out of his mouth were as dark as a demon's. "However, no one would use mental power with a knife to dissect food. Instead, it's used to dissect people and zombies. Do you want me to teach you?"

"Don't use the word 'dissect'!" Lou Ling said with a frown.

Lou Dian leaned closer and kissed her on the corner of her lips. Then, he straightened up and continued working.

This sheep, in addition to being stewed, stir-fried, and dry-cooked, would also be made into haggis and lamb soup. It was already November, and the weather was getting cold. It would be nice to have a bowl of hot lamb soup in winter.

When Xi Mufeng and the others returned in the evening, they would first go to the Lou family's house. They would tell Lou Dian about their day, summarize their experiences, and then look at him expectantly, hoping that he would give them some pointers. Once, Lou Dian had given them a rare suggestion based on their abilities and fighting styles. After discovering that his suggestion was not only feasible but also allowed them to kill zombies with minimal energy loss, Xi Mufeng and the others were full of admiration for him.

It was a pity that Lou Dian, who always appeared calm and gentle, didn't even spare them a glance. Sometimes, he even ignored them completely. He looked elegant and harmless, but sometimes he acted arrogantly and unreasonably.

Ever since Lin Baobao came to find Lou Ling that night, she had returned to her usual self. Although she still called Lou Dian "Your Highness," she no longer tried to get close to him. She was still cheerful and confident, with a bit of playfulness. She could always liven up the atmosphere, and her occasional banter with Lou Ling made people laugh.

Sometimes, seeing that they were too tired, Lou Ling would keep them for dinner. Although the dishes weren't extravagant, she made sure there was enough food. Of course, in return, Lin Baobao had to fill all of Lou family's water containers with water until her power ran out; Xi Mufeng had to charge their batteries—now their lighting tools at night were solar generators and batteries, and the electricity from his lightning power could be directly stored in the batteries, which amazed Lou Ling; Chen Kaiwei condensed ice cubes and put them in the refrigerator to keep the food fresh, and Lou Dian also took some into his space, saying that he had a use for them; as for Wei Xian—they didn't need anything from his space, just his help with cleaning the house.

After a few days like this, the clear sky that had persisted since the apocalypse suddenly poured down with a torrential rain. The astonishing downpour made people feel uneasy.

At night, the entire city was plunged into darkness. There was no electricity, and people were reluctant to waste other lighting tools and candles. Besides, light would attract zombies. Without the lights of thousands of households, the rainy night seemed especially terrifying. Occasionally, lightning flashed across the sky.

Lou Ling felt that the weather seemed to have turned colder.

The curtains were tightly drawn, and a bedside lamp was turned on in the room. The faint light gave the room a hazy and ambiguous atmosphere. She carefully lifted the curtain, only to see darkness outside. Occasionally, after a flash of lightning, she could see the buildings in the neighborhood, standing wet and silent in the rain, looking eerie and scary.

"Aren't you cold?" A gentle and clear voice came.

The next moment, she was lifted by her waist and landed on a warm chest. Then, she was carried back to bed.

The blanket on the bed had been replaced with a light duvet, which was perfect for the sudden drop in temperature on this rainy day. Buried under the quilt, she felt very warm. While she was warm, Lou Ling was worried about the sudden drop in temperature. The weather felt abnormal.

As she was still worrying about the weather, she was pushed onto the bed. A male body pressed down on her, and then—

"It's cold. Don't take off my clothes," Lou Ling said through gritted teeth.

The light had been turned off. In the darkness, she couldn't see his face, but she could feel his hot breath on her face. His nimble fingers were unbuttoning her clothes, and his hoarse voice, filled with desire, sounded in her ear. "How can we do that kind of thing without taking off our clothes?"

"…"

Another struggle ensued, and the result was naturally her suppression. She was pressed onto the bed and stripped bare. When her hand was once again forcefully covered by something hot, Lou Ling buried her face in the pillow and thought with resignation: Fortunately, it wasn't a home run straight away. At least there was some comfort in that.

After he was done, Lou Ling thought she could finally sleep. However, tonight was different from usual. Especially when he buried his head in a certain unspeakable place, she felt as if a bolt of lightning had struck her, leaving her both numb and trembling, her soul almost leaving her body.

"…Stop it!" She kicked him with her legs, her voice choked with tears. "I don't need… I don't need you to do this…"

He pressed down on her, gently sucking on the delicate skin of her neck. His voice held a strange laziness. "I heard that if you don't let it out, you'll go crazy. This is a way to relieve stress. Be good, just leave it to me."

"I don't need to relieve stress!" she said angrily.

"How could you not? You helped me just now, and I'll help you too." His voice was laced with amusement.

"…"

This pervert! Why didn't a bolt of lightning strike him and knock his soul out of his body?!
