Chapter 109: Leisurely in the Apocalypse 12

Qin You listened to her subordinate's report with an ugly expression. Her gaze was gloomy as she coldly asked, "Are you certain they're all dead?"

Qin Jun nodded with a grim face. "I personally inspected the scene just now. The wounds on those people were indeed inflicted by mutated camels and zombie wolves. They weren't lying."

Qin You furrowed her brow. She felt something was amiss. Why were the deceased all Qin family ability users? When Qin Jun mentioned that he had already collected and cremated the bodies of their companions, Qin You's heart stirred. She realized the scene was likely deliberately preserved to prove their innocence, to demonstrate that their companions who went out with them had indeed died at the hands of mutated and zombie beasts.

After a while, Qin You sighed and languidly leaned against the sofa, her fair and tender legs exposed and resting on the armrest in an alluring pose. Her voice was lazy as she said, "What do you think of Lou Dian's abilities?"

"He's a powerhouse!" Qin Jun replied without hesitation. Before today, he might have thought, like others, that Lou Dian was only a second or third-tier ability user. However, after seeing the traces of battle at the scene and the injuries on the three mutated camels, his opinion had changed.

"Yes, he's a powerhouse!" Qin You twirled a strand of her long hair, a seductive smile appearing on her face. "A young, handsome, and capable powerhouse…tsk…"

Qin Jun gazed at her, somewhat infatuated, until she extended her fair leg and rubbed it against his. He couldn't help but sit down on the sofa, his tall frame covering her shapely body. His voice was hoarse. "If Madam desires him, I…"

Her bright red lips neared his ear, her breath like orchids. "No need. I prefer to hunt personally. Regardless of his motives, we'll tame him first, and then he'll be of use to us…"

Soon, the room was filled with the intertwined sounds of heavy male and soft female voices.

After they both had their fill of pleasure, the woman lay languidly on the red carpet, lit a cigarette, and exhaled a cloud of smoke. She pondered the day's events. After the anger and the release of emotions, her thoughts became clearer. She spoke to the man kneading her body, "It's been a year since we last contacted the capital. I wonder how the Qin family is doing. Although Ah Peng is dead, our Qin family's foundation remains. As long as we have these resources and cooperate with the Feng family, maintaining our position shouldn't be a problem."

"Young Master Peng…what a pity!" Qin Jun mumbled.

Qin You laughed. "There's nothing to pity. He was simply less capable. It's fine that Ah Peng is dead. Sooner or later, I will return to the Qin family, and everything will be mine!" She then kicked the man off her, rose gracefully, and said, "Go and call Zhou Cheng and the others."

Qin Jun responded softly, glancing at the suggestive marks on her alluring body, understanding that this body belonged to many men. He lowered his head and left.

Once Qin Jun was gone, Qin You's expression turned cold. She extinguished her cigarette butt, wrapped herself in a robe, and sat on the sofa. Closing her eyes, she communicated with the mutated plants in the oasis, just like every other day, and began to monitor Lou Dian and Lou Ling.

Lou Dian casually glanced at a mutated plant outside the window, his eyes turning cold. With a flick of his finger, a spatial blade severed it. When he turned to look at the person beside him, his eyes softened.

Lou Ling sat with her legs straight, her back against the wooden wall, watching the setting sun. She chatted idly with him, exchanging meaningless words, as if the morning's hunt was a distant memory. The apocalypse was like this; people died all the time, and human life became cheap. They had to learn to face it.

After sunset, Bach delivered their share of mutated beast meat for the day, along with a few green vegetables.

Because they had gone hunting outside the oasis today and brought back three mutated camels, the people in the oasis understood they weren't freeloaders. They no longer gave them cold shoulders, and even tonight's dinner was much more substantial.

After sending Bach away, the two closed the doors and windows, completely blocking the view from outside. Just like the past two days, Lou Dian tossed the two bowls of mutated beast meat into his spatial storage and took out their own homemade food for dinner.

"They'll probably be suspicious about today's events," Lou Ling said. "Do you have a plan?"

Lou Dian looked at her, asking with a smile, "Why do you say that? Don't you want to rest for a few days after finding an oasis?"

Lou Ling looked at him for a moment, then pouted and said sullenly, "Don't treat me like a fool. Would you stay here if you didn't have a purpose?" This man wished the whole world would die, leaving only the two of them, eternally undisturbed. How could he possibly enjoy staying in a place where they were constantly monitored? Although Qin You managed this oasis and strived to provide the survivors here with ample food and clothing, seeming like a qualified leader, the previous impression Qin Peng had left on her was too terrible. She subconsciously resisted the Qin family.

It wasn't that she liked people just because they seemed good. Sometimes, women acted on emotions. Logically, she felt Qin You was not bad, but emotionally, she couldn't accept her and even felt wary.

"Let's stay for two more days. Aren't you curious how they allow ordinary people to eat mutated beast meat?" Lou Dian tempted her.

Lou Ling was naturally curious, but she had observed for two days and hadn't found anything unusual. "Could it be related to the plants here?" The only thing she admired was the mutated plants in this oasis. This was the first time she had encountered a wood-type ability user with such a high ability level. She realized that the achievements of wood-type ability users could be quite significant.

"I don't know either. We have to investigate."

"If we can figure this out, it would be a good thing, benefiting more ordinary people," Lou Ling sighed.

Lou Dian had asked Qin You about this out of curiosity before, but Qin You had brushed him off with a few vague words. Her answer was watertight, stating she didn't know either and believed it was a matter of individual constitution, something untraceable. Naturally, there was no way forward with that.

Night fell quickly.

Not long after Lou Ling fell asleep, she was awakened by a strange sound. Even though the sound was very soft, it instantly alerted someone accustomed to the apocalypse.

Surrounded by darkness, unable to see her surroundings, Lou Ling reached out to the side and grasped nothing.

After a moment of bewilderment, Lou Ling grabbed the Tang Dao beside her and rolled over. Holding a mutated vine seed, she silently approached the window and discovered a tube-like object extending through the gap. When she sensed something strange about the airflow, Lou Ling immediately held her breath, realizing someone was targeting them. She quietly retreated into the bathroom. She intended to open the bathroom window, but found it was blocked from the outside.

Seeing this situation, she couldn't help but feel depressed. She sighed, tiptoed back to the main room, and retrieved her backpack.

Ten minutes passed, and finally, someone pushed open the door. A furtive figure darted in, heading straight for the main room.

"Ugh…"

A soft gasp echoed in the darkness, abruptly cut short.

Then, several more people entered, all heading towards the main room. One of them even muttered, "Don't hog it all, you bastards. Leave one for your brother."

After entering the room, they also fell silent.

After an unknown amount of time, another person entered. This person didn't sneak in like the previous ones but walked in openly. As he entered the main room, a dark shadow attacked, and he was immediately caught by a mutated vine.

"Xiao Ling?"

Click. A flashlight turned on, casting a weak beam of light. Lou Ling leaned against the wall, her Tang Dao dripping blood. Five or six men lay on the ground, all bound by mutated vines.

Seeing this scene, Lou Dian understood immediately. A storm gathered in his eyes. Just as he was about to act, he noticed the woman staring intently at him and relaxed his hand. A spatial blade shot out from the wooden house's gap, embedding itself in the foundation and leaving a crack.

"Let's deal with these people first," Lou Ling said, directing the mutated vines to drag the men outside. Fortunately, their dwelling was relatively far from the others, so they didn't have to worry about disturbing them with a little noise. Waving a damp cloth in the air, Lou Ling added, "There's still some drug in the air. Be careful."

Lou Dian had already smelled the unusual scent in the air and understood why these men were here. He stared at the open doorway for a moment until a hand grasped his. He then came back to his senses, caressed her face, and slid his hand down her back. He suddenly felt grateful that since the apocalypse, he hadn't tried to keep her completely under his wing but had allowed her to develop as she had in her past life.

The room was filled with the smell of the drug, making it difficult to even breathe deeply. Lou Dian carried her onto the roof, sat on the ridge, and shielded their surroundings with his mental power, waiting for the drug in the room to dissipate. His mental power spread out aggressively, observing the mutated vines dragging the men to the grassy area by the lake. Still not satisfied, he directly invaded their minds with mental threads, either turning them into idiots or inflicting immense pain.

Then, his mental power swept over Qin You's house, witnessing the chaotic scene of one woman and five men. He sneered inwardly. The Qin family hid their secrets well. There were probably several bases like this. He wondered if they would be lucky enough to protect them.

"Where did you go?" Lou Ling asked, sniffing him. Finding no scent of blood, she felt relieved. She wasn't as worried as she had been in the capital base when he left while she was sleeping. As for the incident that had just occurred, she felt nothing; she could handle it herself. She was only worried that he would discover something and rashly investigate, putting himself in danger.

Lou Dian kissed her lips and said, "I went to the oasis's cellar and moved some things."

"Cellar?" Lou Ling hadn't expected the oasis to have such a thing, but if it was a base built by the Qin family, it wasn't surprising. "What things?"

"A batch of firearms."

Not surprised by this answer, Lou Ling noticed he seemed to be in a good mood and asked, "Anything else?"

"I also found that they were holding an ability user captive in the cellar."

"What kind of ability user?" Her interest was piqued.

He pulled her into his arms and kissed her face randomly, as if to dispel the fear from her earlier killing. He then said, "Aren't you curious why ordinary people can eat mutated beast meat? He's the answer!"
