Chapter 210: This Zombie Is under My Protection! 2

Su Tang's declaration of going for a good meal was followed by immediate action; she turned and left without a moment's hesitation.

Her departure didn't strike the researchers as odd. After all, Dr. Lin had been there for over three hours, and Specimen One continued its cycle of splitting open, healing, and splitting open again. Though initially gruesome, the sight had become commonplace for them.

"Goodbye, Dr. Lin."

The research institute was heavily secured, riddled with traps and hidden weapons, and guarded by troops outside. Breaking through alone would be no easy feat for Shen Yi.

It was now past midnight. Even if Su Tang, as Dr. Lin, wanted something to eat, instant noodles were the only option.

She started preparing the noodles. Just as she poured hot water, the system alerted her, "Shen Yi is coming."

Her hand trembled, spilling the scalding water onto her hand. Her fair skin instantly reddened. Su Tang frowned, set down the noodles, and ran her hand under cold water.

"How is this possible? How did he bypass so many security measures in such a short time?"

The institute's security was airtight. Any breach would trigger an immediate alarm, yet everything remained silent.

The system replied, "He just took a researcher's communicator and sent a message to the highest-ranking officer outside."

The bait was undeniably alluring. Lin Yang's apparent concern for him, coupled with the special treatment he seemed to receive, led the officer to bring two personal guards and head straight to the institute without a second thought.

They walked into a death trap. Before they could utter a word, they were slaughtered the moment they stepped into the lab.

Shen Yi's devouring ability instantly absorbed their powers.

He was a newly turned zombie, different from the average undead. While ordinary zombies mindlessly attacked and bit, he retained a degree of control. He could suppress the urge to bite, but not the thirst for killing, especially the thrill of tearing flesh and leaving a trail of gore. It ignited a spark in his still heart.

He took the officer's access card and followed the faint sounds he heard, step by step.

Su Tang ran her hand under cold water until the stinging subsided. She returned to her noodles, but just as she took a bite, the zombie kicked open her office door.

The bang reverberated through the room.

Su Tang didn't look up, focused on her noodles as if they were a gourmet meal.

Shen Yi stood there, covered in blood. He was genuinely curious if anything could surprise her. He had breached the base, stood before her, and yet she remained utterly calm.

"Dr. Lin, long time no see," he rasped, his voice hoarse from disuse.

Shen Yi was handsome, a tall, well-built figure. But now, his eyes glowed blood red, his face and body caked with dried blood and bits of flesh. He looked like a demon from hell.

Su Tang paused mid-bite, then looked up, her gaze cold and detached as she surveyed him. "You've recovered well."

Her voice was devoid of emotion, like a machine. To her, Shen Yi wasn't a person, just experimental data.

Well, Shen Yi wasn't human anymore, thanks to this very doctor.

The thought intensified the murderous glint in his eyes.

"Aren't you afraid I'll kill you, Dr. Lin?"

Su Tang was afraid, but fear was useless. Would pleading save her? No. She had to stay calm.

"Although I haven't thoroughly examined you, I'm certain you're my most successful experiment." A flicker of something akin to interest finally appeared in her icy eyes as she mentioned the experiment.

Shen Yi had intended to kill her, but now he changed his mind.

A doctor confined to a research facility—how would she react if thrown into a horde of zombies?

Killing her would be too merciful. He wanted to see her suffer, to see her fear, to see her… beg him for mercy.

His undisguised killing intent washed over her like a blade, but Su Tang met his gaze unflinchingly.

That look was all too familiar to Shen Yi. He sneered. "What, are you planning another experiment, Dr. Lin?"

"Would Specimen One allow that?" she asked politely, even offering a small smile.

Lin Yang was known for her icy demeanor, a chilling presence. But this smile… it was like a thaw in the frozen landscape.

It would have been captivating under different circumstances, but Shen Yi's face darkened. He wanted to grab her by the throat and squeeze the life out of her.

Instead, he said, "Sure."

He expected her to jump up in excitement, but she simply said, "Could you wait until I finish my noodles, Specimen One?"

This was her last meal. After this, she wouldn't even have instant noodles. The thought brought a pang of sadness.

The child she raised was about to kill her.

She had given him a second chance at life, and he was going to take hers.

Of course, Su Tang knew he hadn't wanted this kind of rebirth.

The noodles were bland, but she was hungry. She forced herself to eat, her expression betraying nothing.

Shen Yi was losing patience. His body was sticky with the stench of blood and gore. The initial thrill had turned to disgust.

He frowned, his gaze settling on the bedroom inside the office. It was Lin Yang's, but it felt sterile, devoid of any warmth.

As Su Tang listlessly ate, Specimen One suddenly began removing his clothes, revealing a lean waist, defined abs, and an enticing v-line.

The visual impact was jarring, leaving Su Tang momentarily stunned.

Shen Yi noticed her reaction and glanced over, catching the famously cold Dr. Lin staring at his bare torso.

"Like what you see?"

Su Tang: …

Don't panic, she could handle this!

"I'm wondering if I cut open your chest with a scalpel, would your heart still be beating?"

Shen Yi's expression darkened. "I can tell you right now, it doesn't beat anymore."

Su Tang stopped eating, her gaze now filled with a strange admiration. "Truly a perfect specimen."

If not for her last words, her expression would have been that of a lover gazing at their beloved.

Me, Su Tang, courting death online.
