Chapter 130: Haunted by Evil Ghosts 11

Feng Ye's voice was flat, emotionless. But Su Tang knew him well. If it wasn't something important, he wouldn't have brought it up.

So she asked the system, "What's going on with this tomb?"

The system replied, "According to the latest data, this is the tomb of the Goddess of the Chiyan Kingdom."

"What in the world is a 'Goddess'?" Su Tang asked.

"Similar to a saint in the Chiyan Kingdom, but with some witchcraft involved. You could call her a Shamaness," the system explained.

Su Tang began to understand why the system had warned her to be careful. A thousand-year-old Shamaness, one that even Feng Ye remembered, was probably a tough opponent. Then she heard the system say, "Before she died, she set up a formation and had people arrange a strange array to resurrect herself." After a pause, it added, "Oh right, her reincarnation is Zhong Ning."

Su Tang choked back a curse, completely dumbfounded. "So all this is happening just to resurrect… me?"

The system confirmed, "Essentially, when you transmigrated, Zhong Ning should have dissipated. But there were some unforeseen circumstances, which haven't been detected yet. Also, according to the updated data, the formation in the suburban graveyard before wasn't just to control you. Its main purpose was to trap your soul and resurrect the Shamaness."

As for the menacing ghost from before, it was just a pawn, completely clueless and sent out to be cannon fodder.

Su Tang felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. A saint, planning for a thousand years just to be resurrected. "What about Feng Ye?"

The system answered, "The Shamaness met the Ghost King by chance. She approached him, flattered him, and in the end, for her own immortality, she tried to seize his soul, taking advantage of his trust." It paused as its database updated, then continued, "Although she failed, she injured the Ghost King. His slumber is partly because of her."

Su Tang was too shocked to speak. "This is too much information. I need a moment."

From what the system said, Zhong Ning's past life had a grudge against the Ghost King. Now that she occupied Zhong Ning's body, it meant she had a grudge against the Ghost King.

Su Tang was so overwhelmed by the revelations that she couldn't sleep. Even the next day, as they entered the tomb, she was still in a daze.

Feng Ye noticed her distraction early on. He took her hand and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Didn't sleep well last night," Su Tang murmured, popping a mint into her mouth.

She couldn't afford to be distracted inside the tomb. One wrong step and it could be over.

Unlike her caution, the old professor was ecstatic upon entering the tomb passage. He stared at the colorful paintings on the walls, his entire body trembling with excitement.

"Everyone be careful! These are all cultural relics!"

Led by the professor, the students were equally excited. The passage was long, the paintings mostly depicting scenes of the Chiyan Goddess's sacrificial rituals. The Goddess wore a red dress and a veil, revealing only her eyes, which held an almost demonic allure.

"This is the tomb owner, the Chiyan Goddess. It's said she possessed divine power and even held a higher status than the Chiyan King at the time."

The old professor rambled on, the students listening intently. Su Tang, however, suddenly flicked out a rune.

The rune shot straight towards the Goddess's eyes in the painting. Everyone saw a flash of light, and the captivating allure of the paintings faded.

The old professor was startled. "What happened?"

"There's a confusing array within the painting. Look at it for too long, and your spirit will weaken, eventually being sucked into the array," Su Tang explained. Looking at the mural again, she saw it was different.

The original sacrifices of livestock in the paintings had changed into humans. These humans weren't dressed in ancient clothing, but in t-shirts and jeans, clearly modern people.

"This…" The old professor's face turned pale with fright. "That's Old Yu!"

Guan Zhi exclaimed, "Professor Yu? But didn't he already come back? And these other people…"

The more she spoke, the more terrifying it became. The atmosphere, once lighthearted, turned tense and frightening.

The rest of the people in the painting were Professor Yu's assistants and students. Their faces were contorted in pain, some with limbs dismembered, others decapitated.

At that moment, the open tomb door suddenly slammed shut.

The heavy thud echoed, sending the students into a frenzy.

"What the hell just happened?!"

"Professor! Professor, what do we do?"

The old professor, though experienced, was now responsible for these students. If something happened, the consequences were unthinkable.

"Don't panic! Remember the runes I gave you? Hold onto them tight. I'll get us out of here."

Su Tang's voice rang out in the dark tomb, instantly dispelling some of the fear.

Guan Zhi stepped forward. "That's right, we have Master Zhong!"

The students calmed down slightly, but their enthusiasm for archaeology had waned. All they wanted now was to escape.

The tomb door was made of thousand-year-old blackstone. Even if Su Tang used all her runes, she wouldn't be able to break it. But even though the main entrance was sealed, there might be other ways out.

She asked the system to map out the safest route. But even the safest route could hold unexpected dangers.

The tomb reeked of decay, the air thick with Yin energy. Even with flashlights, it was unbearable.

The students, their earlier excitement gone, huddled in their jackets, following closely behind Su Tang.

They walked through the passage and arrived at a jade door. Despite their fear, their archaeologist instincts, especially the old professor's, took over. "The dragon and phoenix carvings on this door are incredibly lifelike!"

Unlike the awestruck professor, Su Tang sensed something was off about the door.

"Professor, don't get too close."

She took out a small, human-shaped paper cutout and stuck a rune on it. "Go."

The paper figure, barely the size of her palm, moved with surprising agility. It slipped through a crack in the jade door. A grinding sound echoed, and the door slowly opened.

However, the moment the door opened, the paper figure spontaneously combusted.

Everyone gasped, except for Su Tang. "It's fine. It's just a trigger mechanism. The door is coated with phosphorus powder. Any touch will ignite it. The paper doll took the hit for us. As long as we don't touch the door, we'll be fine."

The old professor sighed in relief. "Thank goodness for Miss Zhong! We would have been goners."

Su Tang smiled and urged everyone to stay close.

Beside her, Feng Ye commented casually, "Miss Zhong's mystical abilities seem to have improved significantly."

He was right. The system had mentioned that although the Shamaness was reborn, Zhong Ning's body had almost no spiritual energy, and her mystical abilities were practically nonexistent. Su Tang, on the other hand, might have lost the spiritual energy from this world, but she had experience from other worlds. She was now proficient in runes and formations.

Su Tang kept her expression neutral. "I was ignorant in the past and let my skills deteriorate. Now I'm just picking them up again. Why, does Mr. Feng have any objections?"

She usually called him by his name directly. The way she addressed him now, as "Mr. Feng," betrayed her inner turmoil.

Feng Ye chuckled softly. "Not at all. I'm simply impressed by your rapid progress, Miss Zhong."

"Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Feng," Su Tang replied.
