Chapter 278: Death God's Sacrifice 7

Su Tang wrote a single word, offering no further explanation. However, given Death's comprehension, he should understand, especially considering the similarities between her and Sophia's enigmatic situations.

Death did indeed understand. Understanding, however, was one thing; acceptance was quite another.

Wait a minute. How could his adorable, well-behaved little black cat transform into that hideous, yellow-haired, ugly woman? At the very least, she should have black hair and black eyes, just like him!

Both god and cat fell silent. Su Tang had already given up on herself. Back then, to please Death, she practically abandoned her human dignity.

She danced for him in mini-skirts, massaged him with her little paws while he bathed, lay on her back exposing her belly, and showered him with affectionate licks. She did these things constantly, eventually becoming so accustomed to them that she felt uneasy on any day she didn't let him rub her belly.

Habits, indeed, were terrifying.

Death's expression was peculiar. It wasn't anger, but it wasn't happiness either. Finally, Moca found the right word to describe it—a word he had never before associated with his master: astonishment, bordering on horror.

As a servant, Moca knew he shouldn't be curious or pry into his master's affairs. But now, he was incredibly curious. What could possibly have astonished his master to such a degree?

After writing, Su Tang completely shut down, closing her eyes and playing ostrich.

After a long while, Death seemed to finally accept the reality. "You foolish creature, you…"

His exasperated tone made Su Tang's heart clench.

She had only considered Death's fondness for her current form, forgetting that, since Sophia's appearance, he had consistently called her "ugly creature."

So, Death actually loved her black cat appearance, with no regard for her soul.

Su Tang had been reluctant to reveal her true form, fearing that this eccentric god, in his madness, might suddenly demand she, as Sophia, dance for him in a mini-skirt.

The mere thought was suffocating.

She could be a frivolous little cat, but that didn't mean she wanted to be a frivolous little noblewoman!

Then, Death delivered the final blow. This appearance-obsessed deity only loved her outer form.

Su Tang was caught between joy and sorrow, utterly bewildered.

However, she didn't know that Death was even more bewildered than she was.

He did love the little black cat; otherwise, he wouldn't have pampered her to the point where she was second only to him in power. She could strut around the entire underworld, even the entire world, without consequence. Even when the God of Love had shot him with the Arrow of Love, and the little black cat saved him, he wasn't moved; he was angry.

Such a weak creature could have easily lost her life. Who needed her to save him on her own accord?

The Arrow of Love was indeed poisonous, but he was Death, the ruler of life and death. How much damage could a measly arrow inflict? Even if there were consequences, he could bear them all.

The only reason he hadn't torn the God of Love apart was that the little black cat could be saved. Devouring a few hundred souls would slowly restore her. As for the God of Love, he was probably suffering a fate worse than death. The wings Death had ripped off would never grow back.

A god without wings was a joke.

But now, he desperately wanted to hear the little black cat tell him that she had just been joking.

How could such a lovely creature turn into a human?

Indeed, Death disliked humans. That was why there were no humans in or around his palace.

How could he accept that something he had loathed for so long had suddenly become something he cherished?

While Death was still grappling with this, Su Tang fell unconscious again.

The little black cat only had a day and a half left to live; how could she possibly be bouncing around with energy? Her previous actions had already exhausted her.

So, before Death could figure things out or question the little black cat further, she lay motionless, as if dead.

Death took a deep breath, telling himself it was alright. Compared to communicating with the little black cat through gestures, communicating with the ugly woman would be much easier.

"Moca, find a physician for her."

Moca's curiosity was insatiable, but his expression remained composed. "Yes." Since they needed a physician, it would be inconvenient to stay here. Just as he was about to pick her up and carry her back to her temporary bedroom, Death spoke again.

"Are you just going to carry her away like that?"

Moca was puzzled by his master's frown. Before, he had practically wished her dead, so why was he now concerned about his rough handling?

But a good servant shouldn't question his master.

"Then, should I carry her?" Moca swore he saw murderous intent in his master's eyes after he uttered those words.

Death hesitated. He hadn't decided what to do, but the thought of Moca carrying Sophia made him frown. He hadn't even carried her himself yet. How could a servant presume to do so before him? She was his sacrifice!

"Forget it, I'll carry her myself." He carefully placed the little black cat back in his pocket, then, with a look of disgust and somewhat rough movements, picked Sophia up.

Moca was stunned. For a moment, he saw the shadow of a ferocious beast in his master.

"M-Master?"

Moca was so shocked by this bizarre scene that he didn't know what to say. Then, Death scowled. "What are you standing there for? Lead the way."

"Yes, Master, this way." Moca stumbled along, his mind still blank when they reached Su Tang's room.

Then, he heard Death complain, "Can a place like this even house a person?"

Humans had never been in Death's palace, and these humans weren't here to serve him. They were sacrifices, no different from livestock. They were simply confined to a designated area.

Consequently, the conditions were truly appalling.

Death's face darkened. The room was small, dark, and airless, without even a window. Four beds crammed into the tiny space made it difficult for him to turn around.

Forget it. Since she was the little black cat, he would return her to her nest.

But he forgot, or perhaps deliberately forgot, that the little black cat's nest was in his bedroom.

Moca had become accustomed to his master's string of surprising actions. As an observant servant, he had to think ahead for his master.

"Master, should Sophia be cleaned up?"

The young lady had been dragged around by several beasts, her clothes torn and her body filthy. So, what was his master thinking? Wasn't he obsessed with cleanliness?!

Death looked down at the human in his arms. She was indeed filthy. He almost dropped her, but the thought of the little black cat in his pocket made him take a deep breath. "Find someone to clean her up."
