Chapter 283: Death God's Sacrifice 12

The Earl's mansion remained as luxurious and opulent as ever. When Su Tang and Death arrived, the Countess was enjoying afternoon tea in the vibrant, flower-filled garden.

A servant stood nearby, presenting the latest jewelry and clothing with a fawning smile. "Madam, these are the newest dresses and jewelry from Naluò's shop. There's a banquet tonight, and the Duchess has also invited Miss. I heard it's actually a matchmaking banquet for the Duke's eldest son."

The Countess nibbled on a delicate pastry. Hearing this, she said haughtily, "Our Karma is so beautiful; I can't imagine anyone else being the star of the banquet. By the way, where's the Earl?"

"The Earl is trying on clothes in his room," the servant replied.

Death, without concealing his form, appeared in the garden hand-in-hand with Su Tang just as Sophia's cheap father, Earl Eyre, walked over.

He wore a well-tailored robe with expensive gems embedded in the cuffs. Though over forty, he still appeared refined and handsome.

"Sophia?" Seeing Su Tang, he immediately frowned. He had no affection for his eldest daughter. "Who allowed you here?"

Sophia rarely left her room and had a minimal presence, yet Earl Eyre still loathed her. "Now, get back to your room immediately."

Su Tang remained expressionless, seemingly accustomed to such treatment. Death, however, was different. How could a mere human dare to insult his Persephone?

Just as Death was about to take action, Su Tang stopped him. "My Lord, killing is pointless. I'm only here to take back what belongs to my mother."

The current splendor of the Earl's mansion was largely due to Sophia's mother's dowry, from the luxurious furnishings to the magnificent house itself. Therefore, her request essentially demanded everything the Earl's mansion possessed.

Earl Eyre's face instantly changed. "Sophia, who gave you the right!" His anger contorted his previously refined and handsome features.

His previous commoner wife was a disgrace to him. He would never have married her if not for maintaining the Earl's lineage. Now that she was dead, everything she left behind was naturally his. After all, without him, how could she have had the opportunity to marry into the nobility?

Like mother, like daughter.

Earl Eyre grew angrier with each thought. Looking at Su Tang's face, he raised his hand and swung it down.

As expected, the slap never landed. Instead, he found himself flung to the ground.

Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. Earl Eyre's eyes widened, his face stinging, yet he hadn't seen anyone move.

The surrounding servants screamed. Death looked coldly at the Earl sprawled on the ground. From above, he declared, "I gave her the right."

Earl Eyre was about to unleash a torrent of abuse, but when he looked up, he realized he couldn't see the other person's face. The figure was shrouded in an elegant black robe, and despite standing in the sunlight, radiated a chilling darkness that inexplicably made him tremble.

"You… you…" Earl Eyre stammered in fear, finally screaming, "You're a devil! Sophia, you actually made a deal with a devil!"

Su Tang almost laughed out loud. "My dear father, have you forgotten that four days ago, you sacrificed me to the gods? Oh, I misremembered. You said I was going to be a servant of the gods, not a sacrifice."

The Countess had long heard the commotion, but her elaborate dress hindered her. By the time she arrived, she saw Earl Eyre on the ground, his face filled with terror.

She quickly glanced at Eyre and then berated the surrounding servants. "You fools, the Earl is on the ground, can't you help him up?" After scolding them, she turned her attention to Su Tang. Compared to Earl Eyre, she remained relatively calm. "Sophia, didn't you go to be a servant of the gods? Why are you back after just a few days?" She spoke while scrutinizing Death. After a single glance, her eyes suddenly burned, causing her to cry out in agony.

"Ah, my eyes! My eyes hurt! It hurts so much!"

As she screamed, blood streamed from her eyes. The servants, having never witnessed such a scene, were petrified. When they finally regained their senses, they abandoned everything and fled in panic, forgetting the Earl and Countess.

Earl Eyre was terrified, his arrogance gone, practically begging on his knees for this unknown figure to spare his life.

His voice trembling, he asked, "How have I offended you, Great Lord? Please enlighten me."

Death gave a cold smile, his voice emanating from the abyss, dark and chilling. "I've come to thank you. I'm very satisfied with this sacrifice."

These few words terrified Earl Eyre and his Countess. They knew Sophia was a sacrifice, a sacrifice to a dark god. Whether as a servant or a sacrifice to such a god, survival was impossible. They assumed Sophia was long dead, but now, she stood before them, accompanied by her god.

This was a high and mighty god, and he was now standing up for Sophia!

Earl Eyre was so frightened he couldn't speak. The Countess, however, driven by her survival instinct, began to confess and repent.

Death found humans utterly uninteresting and was about to take his little sacrifice to find some lilies when Su Tang suddenly remembered that Sophia's mother loved lilies. In her small attic, there was a bag of lily seeds.

"My Lord, let's go find the lily seeds."

"Lead the way," Death replied.

As a being of Death, if he didn't wish for humans to see his true form, they couldn't. However, he was generous with his little sacrifice.

He considered this trip to the mortal realm a leisurely outing with his little sacrifice, with the added bonus of teaching her scumbag father and stepmother a lesson. However, he didn't understand why she didn't want them dead.

"Foolish creature, why not kill them?"

"My Lord, death is but a fleeting moment. Only by living, enduring endless pain and fear, can a person be truly broken."

Death paused, initially thinking his little sacrifice was too kind, but it turned out she had a temper.

"Hmm, not bad." After praising her, he noticed the increasingly dilapidated surroundings, especially the stairs, which creaked with every step, giving him the impression they were about to collapse. However, nothing compared to the attic they reached.

Dilapidated, cramped, and dark.

This place was completely unsuitable for living, yet the object inside that could barely be called a bed reminded him that his little treasure had once lived here.

His eyes turned scarlet. His precious treasure, treated so poorly!

"I'm going back to kill two people."

Su Tang, having just found the lily seeds, immediately pulled him back. "No need, My Lord. If you want to avenge me, can you help me take all the things here?" She smiled like a little fox. "I mean all the valuables."
