Chapter 46: The Doll's Grin

Xili finally closed her mouth. She lowered her head slightly, sighing as she took off the charm from her back, crumpled it into a ball, and threw it away. The corners of Xili's eyes, slightly wrinkled downwards, seemed to hold a hint of regret, or perhaps relief.

But no longer pretending did make her feel a little more at ease.

"I didn't expect you to have such a sharp tongue," Xili said. "I remember," Xili's eyes looked up, recalling the name, "0976, the ghost you mentioned, I can clearly describe what he looks like. I remember the ghost in the classroom that doesn't exist in the campus ghost stories, the chaos in the amusement park, I remember it all."

"I'm not afraid of ghosts. I can see them, own them, and control them. Why do people get hurt or die when they encounter ghosts at school, but I only fell into the water? It's because nothing happened to me at all. That dirty thing wasn't worthy of touching me! I jumped into the pool myself."

"The doll in the photo is also mine."

Xili laughed, her smile utterly innocent. "It feels so much better to say it out loud. I really don't like it when people interrupt me."

Shen Chen: "0976 suddenly disappeared, does it have anything to do with you?"

"Hmm." Xili hummed from her throat and said with a smile, "But I'm very careful. Anyone who offends me, even a little bit, I will make them pay back. But speaking of which, I did do a good deed, right? Otherwise, more students might have been injured at school."

Shen Chen nodded, his fingers typing something on his phone. As Xili finished speaking, his bony fingers paused, and his eyes glanced at her.

"What's your purpose today?"

Xili cooperated very well, like a suspect who surrendered to the police and cooperated with their work. "My purpose has run off."

Shen Chen paused, his fingers tapping on the keyboard as if writing a report. "Little Gui, why?"

"Because I'm petty. I don't like people standing in my way. Annoying."

Xili added, "You don't seem worried about Little Gui."

Shen Chen didn't react.

Shen Chen continued to write his report on his phone. "Where's the doll in your schoolbag?"

Xili: "Guess?"

Shen Chen drew an arrow to the right of the word "doll" and wrote Li Xiaogui's name.

Doll —> Li Xiaogui

Xili: "By the way, who took that photo? They're quite observant."

Xili was unrestrained. Even though she had signed a contract with the doll, she was indeed an ordinary human. Shen Chen couldn't do anything to her.

Shen Chen: "Not telling."

The smile on Xili's face froze for a moment. "Why? I've been very open with you, I've told you everything. It's not a big deal, can't we just chat?"

She appealed to his emotions and reasoned with him.

Indeed, compared to what Xili had said, this seemed like a trivial matter. And the girl's voice had become so weak and soft...

Shen Chen shook his head and said, "No. You're petty."

Xili: "......"

The expression on Xili's face froze once again. She slowly said, "Shen Chen, you must not have a girlfriend." There were some things that girls could say about themselves, but they wouldn't allow others to say.

Especially not in such blunt and cold words. Petty Xili felt offended.

Xili couldn't help but ask from the bottom of her heart, "Do you think you can win over Li Xiaogui like this?"

Shen Chen tilted his head, a question mark appearing above his head.

The atmosphere started to turn strange, very strange.

In this strange atmosphere, Shen Chen continued to fiddle with his phone, asking without any change in expression, "Just now, what was that black, dog-shaped thing that shot out of Uncle Aqing's body? When did it... ..."

Not a single ripple of emotion.

Li Xiaogui chased after the strange, black, dog-shaped shadow. The hair on her temples flew back, revealing her smooth, slightly chubby face. Her hazel eyes were focused, locked onto the shadow.

Even though the dog shadow was running fast on all fours, she couldn't shake her off.

The dog shadow darted into a courtyard. The courtyard was made of old, yellow mud and had sparse weeds growing on it. There was a house in the courtyard, which was the dormitory where Li Xiaogui had just put the children down for a nap.

The dog shadow ran to the front. And it seemed to be getting impatient. Its hind legs scratched a circle, its body spun around, and it turned to face Li Xiaogui ferociously.

It seemed like it wasn't going to run anymore.

The dog shadow turned around, still without clear facial features, only black holes that allowed Li Xiaogui to vaguely make out its eyes and mouth.

Black mist, like exploding fur, floated upwards, semi-transparent. Its body was twice the size of Li Xiaogui's, and it emitted a strange stench.

The dog shadow arched its body and growled threateningly at Li Xiaogui. The whole dog was in a fighting stance.

But this was not a good place. Li Xiaogui thought, taking out two blank yellow talismans and holding them between her fingers. Her thin voice chanted powerfully, "Words of God: Silence, Bind!"

The two yellow talismans were thrown into the air. The words "Silence" and "Bind" appeared on the talismans in black, and the paper trembled, emitting light.

Then, with Li Xiaogui and the dog shadow as the center, two circles of light appeared within a radius of twenty meters.

Click, at the same time, the door of the dormitory was suddenly pushed open from the inside. The black dog shadow, which had been arched and bristling, exploded, as if startled. Its black hole eyes shot towards the door, and its four paws darted towards the door.

The dog shadow, already in a fighting stance, moved very quickly. Before Li Xiaogui could blink or lower her hand, the dog shadow had already crashed into something.

A little girl darted out of the door, facing the oncoming black shadow. Li Xiaogui recognized the little girl as Xiaohua, who had just played house with them.

In an instant, the shadow slammed into an invisible barrier and bounced back.

Xiaohua couldn't see the black dog shadow inside the circle, she could only see Li Xiaogui standing alone in the courtyard.

Li Xiaogui: "What's wrong? Can't sleep?"

Xiaohua nodded and said, "I woke up and wanted to come out and play for a while."

Li Xiaogui's eyes curved as she talked to Xiaohua. The big black dog snorted and slammed outwards. On the fifth attempt, the barrier shattered.

Li Xiaogui: "Words of God: Lock."

The black dog shadow was bound.

But Li Xiaogui frowned. There seemed to be something small crawling on the chain around the black dog's neck.

Li Xiaogui took a closer look and saw a smiling doll.

The doll bit down on the chain with its smiling red mouth. With a snap, its tiny mouth actually broke the chain.

The doll raised its head, its inorganic eyes looking into Li Xiaogui's light brown eyes, its mouth grinning eerily.

The chain snapped, and the black dog instantly charged forward like a wild horse off its reins. Li Xiaogui quickly raised her hand: "..."

At the same time, the doll kicked off the black dog's back and pounced towards Li Xiaogui like a cannonball.

Its grinning red mouth stretched into an even more hideous and terrifying smile!
