Chapter 34: Chapter 34

Although Mr. Gray Wolf felt a little unusual about the trousers the little missus made for him, he still blushed and put them on.

Because he had lost his left leg, his meager demonic power was only barely enough to support him standing and walking, and couldn't alleviate the pain. Yuan Jue had a difficult time putting on the trousers.

Shining sweat dripped from his forehead, wetting the black hair that hung down beside Yuan Jue's temples.

His fingers trembled slightly as he tied the uniquely designed string at the front of the animal skin trousers. His ears were burning hot, and he didn't know what he was thinking. The entire wolf was red.

The trousers that Ruan Qiuqiu made for him were still a bit short. One of Mr. Gray Wolf's large feet, along with a small section of his ankle, was exposed.

The trouser leg below the knee of the other leg was flat. Aside from the intermittent pain, it was empty.

Nothing was there.

But he didn't seem to feel much pain. He just gently tugged at the corner of his trousers, the corners of his lips lifting. His unfocused eyes were filled with a smile. He hypocritically clicked his tongue, "Too short."

His demonic power wasn't plentiful, and the time he could be active was limited. After getting dressed, Mr. Gray Wolf stored some snow and swept his demonic consciousness through the "storage room." Discovering that there wasn't much firewood left at home, he trembled his eyelashes slightly, planning something in his mind.

But before leaving, he seemed to have thought of something. He supported himself against the wall and walked back to the bridal chamber. Sitting on the edge of the wedding bed, he lifted the animal skin covering it, revealing the smooth surface of the bed.

There were a few holes he had made last time. Fortunately, they were near the outer edge, on his side, so Ruan Qiuqiu hadn't discovered them.

Yuan Jue pursed his pale lips and slowly extended his right hand, which instantly transformed into a large wolf paw.

He looked very seriously at the part of the wedding bed beneath him, then carefully extended an index finger, slowly carving on the stone bed with his sharp claws.

He wasn't sure if his demonic power would be enough for him to return after hunting. If necessary, he might have to use the demonic energy within his bloodline.

Perhaps using just a little wouldn't be a problem, but he wasn't sure if he would completely remember everything he had experienced with Ruan Qiuqiu. Just in case, he wanted to record it.

Although Mr. Gray Wolf was illiterate, and there wasn't a complete and systematic writing system in the ancient world, he could draw.

He could actually draw very well, but to save time, he just needed to record everything completely—

Round eyes, long hair, animal skin skirt, stick-like arms and legs; that was his little missus.

Pointed ears, large tail, lame leg, triangular eyes; that was him.

The lame gray wolf baring its teeth at the long-haired stick figure; that was their first encounter.

Yuan Jue closed his eyes, his demonic consciousness replacing his sight, "looking" at the images carved on the wedding bed.

After a while, he chuckled softly, "drawing" everything that had happened these past days before covering the bed with the animal skin and leaving the cave.

—Meanwhile, Qiuqiu was trying to figure out how to get the medicinal herbs from the opposite cliff.

She didn't know that Mr. Gray Wolf had gone out, nor did she know that he had drawn her as a long-haired, round-eyed stick figure. Even less did she know that a certain wolf had secretly doodled on the stone bed.

She collected a few dry vines from beside the giant tree near the entrance of the passage and was twisting them into a rope with Xiaoyu.

"Sister Qiuqiu, will this rope work?" Xiaoyu looked worriedly at the rope in Ruan Qiuqiu's hands—a thick rope they had just spent more than half an hour tightly winding together with animal skin and dry vines.

"It will, don't worry." Ruan Qiuqiu smiled at the child, found the end of the thick rope, and picked up a small stone, tying it firmly to the end.

Ruan Qiuqiu first found a short tree, only two or three meters high. After nimbly climbing up, she wedged the end with the stone tied to it onto a relatively thick branch, then grabbed the rope and jumped down.

If the thick rope could bear the weight of her jump, then she planned to use her spiritual power to throw the rope to a protruding rock face on the opposite cliff. If it caught, the danger of climbing across would be greatly reduced.

Ruan Qiuqiu held the rope and dropped for about a minute, confirming that the rope she and Xiaoyu had made was strong enough to support her weight before retrieving it.

Mo Yu also understood. He looked at Ruan Qiuqiu with a bit of admiration, "Sister Qiuqiu, this works too?"

Ruan Qiuqiu "…" What else could she do? She couldn't really throw Xiaoyu over, nor could she swing across like Tarzan. Getting over might be possible, but getting back would be a problem.

Although this method might not be successful and had certain risks, it was the most reliable one.

Mo Yu looked at the almost vertical cliff face full of protruding sharp rocks. Although a little scared, he still said, "I'll go."

"I'm a man. Grandpa and brother both said I should protect girls."

Ruan Qiuqiu "…………"

Her heart warmed. She suddenly felt that Xiaoyu was even more adorable than before.

Ruan Qiuqiu held the rope and walked with Xiaoyu to the tallest tree. Bending down, she said to him, "Then, little man, help me keep watch. If you see me about to fall, catch me."

She wouldn't fall, but if she didn't say so, Mo Yu, a child with strong self-esteem, would probably not be able to bear it.

Xiaoyu thought for two seconds before nodding, "Don't worry, Sister Qiuqiu. You're so light, I can definitely catch you."

Hearing his words, Ruan Qiuqiu's smile deepened.

Although she was indeed light, she was still happy to hear such a cute child say that.

Ruan Qiuqiu patted Xiaoyu's head and, without wasting any time, took the rope and spear, climbing up the tallest giant tree.

She held onto the trunk, then mobilized a trace of spiritual energy, wrapping it around the end of the thick rope with the stone. Aiming at a large, protruding rock on the opposite side, she threw it with force.

Her strength wasn't too weak, but the direction of her throw was still a little off, and the first few attempts failed.

Ruan Qiuqiu mobilized more spiritual energy. On her seventh throw, luck was on her side, and the angle was right. With the help of her spiritual energy, the rope successfully wrapped around the sharp rock three times, the stone at the end wedging itself into a crevice.

Finally succeeding, Ruan Qiuqiu breathed a sigh of relief. She straightened the rope, climbed down from the tree trunk, and repeatedly tested it to make sure it could withstand a strong pull. Then she climbed back up and tied the other end tightly to the trunk.

Ruan Qiuqiu took a deep breath, making sure that nothing in her animal skin backpack would suddenly fall out, before grabbing the rope and completely leaving the tree trunk.

The rope plunged downwards, and Ruan Qiuqiu's feet dangled in mid-air. At such a height, how could she not be afraid at all, especially without any safety equipment? Her scalp tingled, and she forced herself not to look down. Her hands gripped the rope tightly, and after she stabilized a little, she started to climb forward bit by bit.

Little Mo Yu stood below, looking up at her, anxiously stamping his feet.

Fortunately, the giant tree was less than three meters from the cliff. Ruan Qiuqiu finally made it to the other side without incident.

Because the rocks on the cliff were mostly sharp, Ruan Qiuqiu's animal skin clothing was somewhat damaged, and her knees, palms, and arms were more or less injured. But at least she had made it across.

Ignoring her somewhat painful wounds, Ruan Qiuqiu took the spear from her animal skin backpack, staggered forward a couple of steps, and with difficulty, reached the base of the giant tree.

Her eyes caught sight of a small, slightly yellowish root. She squatted down and gently swept the snow aside with her palm.

When the small ginseng finally revealed its head, Ruan Qiuqiu finally showed a joyful smile—

Xiaoyu was right, there really was ginseng here!

Ruan Qiuqiu's eyes brightened, and she carefully began to dig up the ginseng.
