Chapter 19: Chapter 19

Yuan Jue, however, had no time to care about this. He only knew that when he reached another giant tree, his demon consciousness was completely exhausted.

The world fell into complete darkness. Mr. Big Bad Wolf didn't even notice that many black spots were gradually appearing on his face.

Just before he completely lost consciousness, Mr. Big Bad Wolf clutched the demon cores and the bright red fluff tightly, leaning against a giant tree and slowly sitting down.

He gasped for breath and shook his large, fluffy tail, which was covered in snowflakes and about to freeze.

He curled himself up, holding a sliver of hope.

Hoping that Ruan Qiuqiu would come to find him.

But he also knew that he was the one who had cast a deep sleep spell on her with his demon power. Now he hoped that she would come to him. What kind of strange Mr. Reserve Food was he?

In such a dangerous forest, what kind of sweet dream was he having, thinking that she would come to him?

In the lonely and cold winter night, Mr. Wolf let out a short laugh.

He hoped that when she found him again, he wouldn't be a pile of bones.

Frost formed on Yuan Jue's long eyelashes, and he slowly closed his unfocused eyes.

His consciousness gradually blurred, but he seemed to have a hallucination.

It seemed that his little wife, who should be sleeping peacefully on the stone bed, was calling him "husband" from afar.

"Husband!"

"Where are you?"

The hallucination was so real that he could even hear her trembling voice.

But gradually, he couldn't hear it anymore.

The black spots, no longer suppressed, spread at a faster rate on the broken demon cores.

Mr. Big Bad Wolf fell into a coma, but he didn't know.

Ruan Qiuqiu really came looking for him.

"Stupid wolf, where did you go…" Ruan Qiuqiu was about to cry, her voice trembling.

She held a flickering torch in the snow and darkness, a black animal skin coat in her arms, and the only bone knife in the house in her hand. She searched fearfully in the vast, dark forest.

--Rewind to ten minutes ago.

The stone stove, lit with firewood, continuously emitted warmth. The stone bed was warm, but Ruan Qiuqiu felt something was wrong.

She felt as if something was pressing down on her. Not to mention, Mr. Big Bad Wolf suddenly appeared in her dream where she was happily eating roasted meat.

The long, hideous scar on his face was covered in frost, and his pair of gray-blue eyes seemed to have regained focus, staring at her without blinking.

Ruan Qiuqiu looked over in confusion and saw the big bad wolf with the annoyingly sweet face curve his lips into a smile at her.

She heard her sickly husband's voice, filled with loneliness, gently say to her, "…Sleep."

Sleep?

Ruan Qiuqiu regained some consciousness, but it was as if she was being held down by something and couldn't open her eyes.

She struggled with effort and stretched one arm out from under the animal skin.

The chill dispelled some of the intense drowsiness, and Ruan Qiuqiu felt even more that something was wrong.

She wasn't particularly tired yesterday, so it was impossible for her to sleep so soundly.

Was it Mr. Big Bad Wolf? What was this reserve food trying to do?

Ruan Qiuqiu felt a little amused and puzzled. She struggled to raise her hand, wanting to touch Mr. Wolf's arm.

But all her hand touched was the cold animal skin.

Ruan Qiuqiu suddenly woke up. She abruptly opened her eyes and turned to look beside her.

--The animal skin she had tucked around Mr. Big Bad Wolf before going to bed last night was in a mess on the stone bed. The big bad wolf, missing his left leg, was gone.

The spot beside her, where he had been, was empty.

Ruan Qiuqiu felt a chill down her spine. She quickly put on her clothes, wrapped her feet in the animal skin "shoes", and almost frantically rushed to the cave entrance and the "storage room".

But she searched the entire cave inside and out, and there was no sign of Mr. Big Bad Wolf.

Ruan Qiuqiu held a piece of wood she had grabbed from the stone stove in a panic and stood at the entrance of the dark cave. She suddenly felt a sense of abandonment.

She thought about what the wolf had said to her yesterday, telling her to stay away from him.

But she had thought that since he was willing to be a snail-like wolf, he shouldn't reject her that much. Even if he wanted to leave, he wouldn't hate her so much that he wouldn't even want the cave.

The cold wind blew on her body. Ruan Qiuqiu bit her lip, her ears buzzing, her throat and cheeks burning.

A humiliating sense of bitterness welled up. Ruan Qiuqiu blinked hard and, with the help of the faint light, caught sight of a row of inconspicuous footprints in the snow near the cave entrance.

Ruan Qiuqiu wiped her eyes, ignoring the cold wind, and walked into the snow.

There was not only a row of smaller footprints that were almost covered by the snow, but further ahead, there were also some very deep footprints that were clearly from a large predator.

Ruan Qiuqiu's pupils shrank, and a thought came to her mind:

Could it be that some ancient creature or monster had attacked?

Did that wolf, in his smaller form, lure it away?

Ruan Qiuqiu didn't have time to think too much. She quickly ran back into the cave, took a long piece of wood from the "storage room", wrapped it simply with the tattered animal skin from the "master bedroom", and made a torch.

Then she rushed to the stone table and picked up the only weapon in the cave that she could use to protect herself - the bone knife.

As she picked up the bone knife, Ruan Qiuqiu noticed that the clothes she had made for Mr. Big Bad Wolf had been touched.

She picked it up with trembling lips and looked at it, only to pull out a tuft of long, silver-gray fur from inside.

Ruan Qiuqiu looked at the tuft of fur and choked back a sob, a smile curving her lips.

This snail-like wolf was too much. If he wanted to leave, why did he leave his fur behind?

Also, she had just noticed that the firewood in the stone stove had obviously been replenished. Even the two basins of snow water she had left as backup had one poured into the stone pot and boiled.

It was as if he had done it on purpose.

Ruan Qiuqiu laughed twice, her eyes gradually becoming bright and determined.

She held the black animal skin coat she had made for Mr. Big Bad Wolf in her arms, tightly clutched the bone knife in her left hand, and lit the torch with her right hand.

--She was going to find him.

She had to find that big bad wolf who had made his own decisions, clearly used sleep magic on her, and, despite being disabled, had single-handedly lured away a predator.

Although she was weak, she could definitely help by being a bait to attract attention when it wouldn't slow him down.

Ruan Qiuqiu's mind was in a mess. Holding the torch, she braved the heavy snow and, for the first time, left the cave on an extremely dark and dangerous night.

She followed the gradually fading tracks on the ground, slowly running faster and faster.

As a mentally mature and normal person, from a completely rational point of view, she should not risk such heavy snow to look for a big bad wolf who was very likely to have already died.

Even if the wolf demon was her nominal husband, they had nothing going on and hadn't even spent a few days together.

As long as she could forget about him and seek refuge in the Flame Wolf Tribe or any other tribe, with the rarity of her abilities, her chances of survival were definitely much higher than rushing into the forest like this.

But…

Ruan Qiuqiu controlled her breathing, trying not to inhale too much cold air.

The heavy snow blurred her vision, slowing her down.

She gritted her teeth and braved the wind and snow.

But--

He was her Mr. Snail-like Wolf.

Even though she knew it was dangerous, she couldn't just leave him alone.

She knew that according to the plot of the book, Mr. Big Bad Wolf might already be dead.

But since she could change the plot and come to his side, he should also be able to survive.

He had to survive.

The darkness seemed to hide countless pairs of eyes, staring at her, this delicious human.

Ruan Qiuqiu braced herself and forced herself to calmly follow the footprints on the ground, stepping on the thick snow as quickly as possible, slowly chasing after him.

But after walking for more than ten minutes, not only did the footprints of Mr. Big Bad Wolf, who had transformed into a cub, disappear, but the footprints of the "predator" also became fainter and fainter.

Where the footprints disappeared, only a pool of blood remained.

Ruan Qiuqiu looked at the pool of blood, her scalp tingling, her heart burning with anxiety. The torch couldn't illuminate much, and her voice trembled.

"Husband--"

"Where are you?"

Ruan Qiuqiu knew that shouting like this might bring danger to herself, but she was more worried that the big bad wolf would die without her knowing.

She shouted a few times. The cold wind poured into her throat, and Ruan Qiuqiu couldn't help but cough violently.

Crossing a giant tree, footprints appeared again. She smelled an extremely unpleasant stench, many times worse than rotten, spoiled food.

Ruan Qiuqiu carefully turned a corner and almost fell down a slope.

She raised her torch and saw a huge monster.

Its entire body was submerged in the darkness, three to four meters long. Its head and body were separated, its body cut open, its death miserable.

Based on her fragmented memories, Ruan Qiuqiu immediately determined that this was a monster.

Her scalp tingled, but she didn't have time to be afraid. She carefully looked around the monster and, after a moment, breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, she didn't see any severed limbs or corpses of the big bad wolf around.

Where did this stupid wolf go?

He couldn't have really abandoned her, right?

She thought that he was a wolf, with a broken leg, blind, covered in injuries, and had just gone through a battle. He shouldn't have gone far.

He was so proud and stubborn, but he couldn't possibly be in his human form in such heavy snow. It wouldn't keep him warm at all.

Ruan Qiuqiu was about to cry. Holding the torch in one hand and clutching the black animal skin coat in the other, she searched little by little under the giant tree branches.

Finally, after passing several giant trees, she saw a huddled figure under a tall pine tree.

Ruan Qiuqiu widened her eyes and walked through the snow to the foot of the pine tree. Following the light of the torch, she saw his face clearly.

It wasn't a skeleton, nor was it someone else. The demon, almost completely covered in snow, was her Mr. Reserve Food.
