Chapter 10: Chapter 10

Large snowflakes drifted down from the sky, landing on Ruan Qiuqiu's hair. Her increasingly labored breaths melted them bit by bit, slowly turning them into icy water.

Her overly exhausted legs couldn't move, and even her arms gradually lost their strength.

The exposed skin was frozen stiff. Ruan Qiuqiu's palms were weak as she pressed them against the ground, trying hard to get up.

The sky had completely darkened. She tried hard to open her eyes, but all she could see were blurry shadows.

The sound of the wind, "whooshing," reached her ears, seemingly mixed with low footsteps—

Footsteps coming from near the cave, deep and shallow, irregular.

Ruan Qiuqiu's heart instantly leaped to her throat.

Countless thoughts flashed through her dazed mind, from "Maybe it's an enemy of Mr. Big Bad Wolf here for revenge" to "Maybe it's a legendary demon here to take my dog life."

There was even a moment when Ruan Qiuqiu wondered if it was Mr. Big Bad Wolf coming to save her.

But she immediately extinguished that thought.

That big gray wolf was even weaker than her. When she was cleaning his wounds, she was worried several times that he would stop breathing.

It couldn't be him.

But even though her rational mind told her that her wolf husband couldn't possibly wake up to help her, Ruan Qiuqiu couldn't help but open her lips and tentatively call out in a low voice, "Husband?"

The footsteps seemed to pause for a moment, then became slightly more hurried, more chaotic.

The approaching demon or whatever it was didn't speak. Ruan Qiuqiu became even more nervous. She scooped a handful of snow into her hand, her right hand tightly gripping the wooden basin, determined to put up a fight no matter what.

Just as her breathing gradually quickened, a slightly familiar low growl reached her ears.

A hoarse, weak growl, with a hint of urgency different from the daytime.

Like a reluctant and somewhat annoyed response to her "Husband."

Mr. Big Bad Wolf.

It was Mr. Big Bad Wolf.

Ruan Qiuqiu blinked in surprise, a wave of embarrassing heat rising to her face.

Although the wolf seemed very reluctant, she still called out to him again, "Husband, is that you?"

This time, Ruan Qiuqiu didn't wait for her food reserve's response. Instead, she felt the snowflakes that were originally falling on her body being blocked by a tall shadow.

Ruan Qiuqiu widened her eyes and saw a glimmer of hazy light in the cold night.

It really was Mr. Big Bad Wolf.

His warm breath brushed against Ruan Qiuqiu's face, sending a tingling sensation through her.

"…"

"…Awoo~"

Perhaps seeing that she hadn't spoken for a long time, or perhaps to reassure her, Ruan Qiuqiu felt as if she heard the big gray wolf let out a soft cry. The ending note was short, but unlike his growl, it was unexpectedly…tender?

Her waist felt heavy. Ruan Qiuqiu was still lost in thought about her husband's "Awoo" when she was scooped up by Mr. Big Bad Wolf's front paws.

Her nose bumped against his somewhat hard fur, and Ruan Qiuqiu's face stung a little.

The wooden basin in her hand fell to the ground. Ruan Qiuqiu, feeling a little bold, instructed the big gray wolf, who was considered extremely savage by outsiders, "Basin…"

Hearing the weak voice of the human in his paws, the wolf gritted his teeth and lowered his massive wolf head.

"Crack."

The sound of teeth biting on wood was very clear. Ruan Qiuqiu thought of how the wolf had been silently gnawing on snow during the day and couldn't help but chuckle softly.

As she laughed, she felt a pang of heartache. Perhaps the repeated brushes with death in the past few days had left her too exhausted. Ruan Qiuqiu didn't think about whether the big gray wolf would suddenly decide to eat her. Instead, she wondered if the wounds she had just bandaged for him had split open again.

Ruan Qiuqiu leaned against his prickly paws, wanting to lighten his burden a little. She closed her eyes and completely relaxed her tense limbs.

Sensing that the human in his front paws seemed softer than before, Yuan Jue carefully retracted his claws, gently holding the snow-filled wooden basin in his mouth. He controlled his sharp teeth, not daring to accidentally bite through the basin.

He dragged his still-usable front and right paws through the snow with difficulty, burning the remaining demon power in his body. Finally, before he could no longer hold on, he carried the human female who had treated his wounds back to the cave.

As some light returned to his vision and his frozen nose seemed to regain some sense of smell, Ruan Qiuqiu almost immediately noticed the dire state of her food reserve—

He was in his demon form now, but his size was a whole circle smaller than what she had seen in the afternoon.

The bloody smell that had finally dissipated in the air grew strong again. Ruan Qiuqiu turned her head slightly and saw the fresh, glowing bloodstains on the ground.

The wound on his left leg must have split open again.

Ruan Qiuqiu's heart tightened, and she bit her lip.

She regretted it. She regretted not resting for a while before running out of the cave to collect snow.

Now she only hoped that Mr. Big Bad Wolf wouldn't get hurt any worse.

The twenty-odd steps to the "master bedroom" fireplace now seemed extraordinarily long.

By the time the critically injured wolf and human finally reached the fireplace, Yuan Jue had reached his limit.

His stomach, which hadn't eaten in ten days, began to spasm violently. Even the shattered demon core had a bit more unknown blackness on it.

As gently as possible, he placed Ruan Qiuqiu on the stone bed. Only then did Mr. Big Bad Wolf, with great effort, turn around in the cave, which was now quite spacious for his current demon form. His long wolf tail swept past Ruan Qiuqiu's face.

The already tattered animal skin clothing on her body was blown open, leaving her shoulder half exposed.

Ruan Qiuqiu: "…"

Yuan Jue, whose demon consciousness was still observing her and accidentally saw her shoulder: "……"

Ruan Qiuqiu endured the pain all over her body and pulled a piece of animal skin that Mr. Big Bad Wolf had used to cover herself. She looked at the blind big gray wolf with worry.

Noticing that she had directly touched the animal skin he had used, which had his strong scent on it, and was looking at him with concern in her eyes, a strange feeling welled up in Mr. Big Bad Wolf's heart. He unconsciously closed his mouth slightly.

"Crack!" The rim of the wooden basin snapped, leaving a gap.

Ruan Qiuqiu: "…"

Yuan Jue: "…"

Fortunately, the wooden basins he had made before were all quite large, so not much snow spilled out.

Feeling a little ashamed for doing something wrong, the wolf didn't "see" any disgust on Ruan Qiuqiu's face. Her eyes, shining brightly in the warm firelight, were still filled with concern.

Her soft hair was loose, looking very gentle in the flickering light.

His ears couldn't help but twitch rapidly. Yuan Jue felt his heart flutter again.

Maybe the firewood was too good, or maybe he was too furry after returning to his demon form, but he actually felt a little hot.

He had to stay alert, he had to stay alert.
