Chapter 30: Chapter 30

Before Gu Siyi could reply, Xia Zhijun hung up the phone and went back to his room to change.

After changing, he slung his bag over his shoulder, booked a ride, went downstairs, and left.

At the gate of the compound, the guard saw him and thought, “Where is the young master of Secretary Xia's family going so late at night?”

Xia Zhijun explained, "I'm afraid of being late for school tomorrow morning if I leave then, so I'm going back to school tonight."

"Oh, oh, so you don't have a car? I'll arrange one for you right away and take you to school?" The guard said with a smile.

"No need. I've already booked a car."

When the car arrived outside the compound, Xia Zhijun waved his hand, opened the door, and got in.

He took out his phone and looked at the time. It was 11:30 p.m., half an hour before midnight.

He actually came out of the dorm at this hour…

A pang of regret welled up in Xia Zhijun's heart.

However, it was soon suppressed by a stronger feeling.

He opened WeChat and sent a message to Gu Siyi, "I'm leaving."

There was no reply, so he continued to send, "I'll be there in about twenty minutes."

On the other side, Gu Siyi's head was about to explode. If it had been anyone else, she would have directly cursed them as crazy and gone to sleep.

But this was not someone else, it was Xia Zhijun, her great school god.

The only person, so far, who had been treated specially.

Gu Siyi turned on her phone's flashlight and carefully got out of bed, afraid that the noise of changing clothes would wake up her roommates. She didn't even change her clothes and directly put on a loose knitted coat outside. The weather had been getting colder recently, and she was afraid that the wind on the top floor would be too cold in the middle of the night, so she put on a wool shawl.

Gu Siyi tiptoed out of the dorm room and went down to the first floor.

There was a 24-hour security guard on duty here, which was convenient for students who studied late in the library.

Gu Siyi held two books and said, "I still have homework to do, I want to go to the library."

"You're studying so hard? You're still going to stay up all night, don't wear yourself out."

Gu Siyi smiled sheepishly. "Well, I'll pay attention to arranging my study time properly in the future."

After Gu Siyi successfully left the dorm, she went straight to the complex building.

When she got downstairs, she realized that she was early. It was still ten minutes before the twenty minutes Xia Zhijun had mentioned.

Gu Siyi stood by a flower bed outside the building and passed the time by reading a novel on her phone.

Xia Zhijun arrived at the school gate and still hadn't seen Gu Siyi's reply.

Did she fall asleep right after hanging up the phone? Didn't she see the later messages?

He smiled self-deprecatingly. He was indeed too impulsive, childishly impulsive, unlike his usual self.

But he had already come, and even though he didn't get a reply from Gu Siyi, Xia Zhijun still walked towards the complex building.

There were streetlights illuminating the green belts and paths on campus all night long.

But the teaching buildings were all dark, and only the library was still lit.

Xia Zhijun came to the front of the complex building and looked at the long staircase that stretched upwards into the darkness.

He took out his phone and sent a message: "I'm here."

If there was no reply, he would go back to the dorm.

Gu Siyi, who was huddled in a corner reading a novel, immediately looked up when she saw the message pop up on the page.

She looked around and quickly saw Xia Zhijun standing at the bottom of the stairs. He was wearing a simple school uniform, standing tall and straight under the moon, with his hands still casually tucked in his pockets. For some reason, he had a kind of unrestrained and elegant demeanor.

Xia Zhijun didn't receive a reply, so he turned around, intending to go back to the dorm.

Suddenly, a soft, cat-like voice came from behind, "Hey~"

He turned his head and saw the girl walking towards him quickly. After standing still at a close distance, she smiled at him. "I've been waiting for you for ten minutes."

Xia Zhijun was a little dazed as he looked at her.

This was the first time he had seen her with her long hair down, the ends of her hair casually curled, lazily draped over her shoulders.

Under her long hair was a small face and big black and white eyes, long eyelashes, sweet dimples, pure and charming, sweet and attractive. The night wind blew her hair, and also blew his heart.

"…" Gu Siyi felt a little embarrassed being stared at by Xia Zhijun.

He just looked at her straight for a long time without saying a word.

She lowered her head and coughed lightly, very uncomfortable, finding a reason for herself, "Well, it's too late, I was afraid of waking up my roommates, so… so I came out wearing my sleeping slippers…"

Xia Zhijun collected his thoughts and said, "It's okay."

Gu Siyi: "Then, shall we go up together?"

Xia Zhijun: "Yes."

Gu Siyi walked beside Xia Zhijun, and the two walked up the stairs together.

When they reached the building, there were no lights or streetlights, and their vision gradually fell into darkness.

Gu Siyi reached the elevator and said, "Oh no, the elevator has stopped, we can only take the stairs."

Gu Siyi walked to Xia Zhijun's side and said, "The stairs are over there…" She raised her hand and was about to touch Xia Zhijun when he, like an electric shock, abruptly shook her off and quickly took a step back.

Gu Siyi was startled. "What's wrong?"

"…" Xia Zhijun took a deep breath and said in a low voice, "Sorry, I'm not used to the dark, I have a stress reaction."

"Ah? You're afraid of the dark?" After Gu Siyi said that, she wanted to laugh a little and tried her best to hold it back.

The awesome school god, the tough guy who fought so fiercely, was actually afraid of the dark?

But she said kindly, "It is indeed a bit dark here, wait a minute, I'll turn on my phone's flashlight."

Gu Siyi turned on the flashlight, illuminating the way ahead. "Let's go."

Feeling the person beside her stiffen, she subconsciously wanted to comfort and protect him, and asked softly, "Then can I hold your hand?"

"Yes." He let out a soft, hoarse response from his throat.

Gu Siyi reached out, but before she could touch his hand, she felt an indescribable tension, her heart pounding like a deer.

But she still held her breath and took the initiative to hold his hand.

In order to ease the sudden tension, she joked, "With Sister Gu holding your hand, you don't have to be afraid of the dark."

Xia Zhijun chuckled softly and said nothing.

She held his hand in one hand and shone the flashlight with her phone in the other, walking up the stairs.

In the silent darkness, there was only the sound of their footsteps and breathing.

At first, she was the one holding his hand, but inadvertently, it became him holding her hand tightly.

Gu Siyi took the initiative to find something to talk about to lighten the mood.

"Did your uncle and aunt ask you to go home tonight?"

"Yes."

"Because of the fight?"

"Yes."

"Then… did they criticize you?"

"Yes."

Gu Siyi felt like she had killed the conversation.

After a few seconds of silence, she said weakly, "I'm sorry, it's all because of me…"

If she hadn't rejected Lu Ming, Lu Ming wouldn't have come to provoke them, and without that basketball game, there wouldn't have been that big fight…

"Then how are you going to make it up to me?" Xia Zhijun suddenly asked.

"Ah…" Gu Siyi was stunned.

"I fought for you, got scolded for you, and my corner of my mouth still hurts. Saying sorry doesn't have any real meaning."

"…" This was embarrassing. Gu Siyi racked her brains and choked out a sentence, "That's why I came here to give you medicine."

"Not enough."

"Then… then you can ask me to do anything in the future, I'll do anything for you!"

"Good, I'll remember that."

"…"

Gu Siyi inexplicably had a feeling that she would start a new life mode of following Boss Xia's lead in the future.

The two of them went up to the rooftop, and the line of sight suddenly brightened.

There were decorative lights on the roof, a sprinkling of moonlight, and a sky full of stars.

Gu Siyi reached out and turned off her phone's flashlight.

The warmth in his palm suddenly dissipated, and Xia Zhijun clenched his fist, a trace of loss flashing across his eyes.

The two came to the railing, and Gu Siyi took out the ointment and cotton swabs from her pocket. Just as she was about to apply the ointment to the cotton swab, Xia Zhijun said, "I don't like using cotton swabs."

Gu Siyi paused. "But cotton swabs are cleaner, there are bacteria on our hands."

"It's okay, just use your hand."

Xia Zhijun insisted, and Gu Siyi could only comply.

She squeezed the ointment onto her hand and carefully applied it to the corner of his mouth. Looking at the bruised and swollen area, her eyes were filled with distress, and she said softly, "Tell me if it hurts."

Xia Zhijun raised his hand, touching her hair. His fingers passed through her hair and brushed against her scalp, the coolness lingering between his fingers.

Gu Siyi's scalp felt like it was exploding, a tingling sensation spreading throughout her body. Her fingertips trembled, and she turned her head away, her voice unsteady. "What are you doing…"

"You look prettier with your hair down." His voice was low and hoarse as he looked at her. "I like your long hair."

Suddenly being praised so bluntly, Gu Siyi couldn't handle it at all. Her face flushed red, and she said somewhat at a loss, "What are you talking about… Stop talking, let me finish applying the medicine, okay?"

"Okay." He curved his lips.

Gu Siyi gently applied the medicine again, and his palm once again landed in her hair. She turned her head away. "…Don't mess around."

"Didn't you just say you'd do anything for me? Now you won't even let me touch your hair?" He looked at her with his deep eyes.

"That's not… I'm applying medicine… You'll distract me…" Gu Siyi's voice was as soft as a mosquito's.

"Oh." He very cooperatively let her apply the ointment to that area.

When Gu Siyi put down her hand, Xia Zhijun suddenly walked to her side. She subconsciously turned to face him, and he took a step closer, then a step back. Her back was against the railing, and there was nowhere to retreat.

Xia Zhijun put one hand on the railing behind her and looked at her. "I'm done."

"…Okay."

"So can I touch your hair now?"

"…Whatever you want." Gu Siyi lowered her head and twisted the ointment cap, looking resigned to her fate.

Xia Zhijun's palm landed on her head, and he laughed soundlessly, his fingers passing through her smooth hair.

Gu Siyi bit her lower lip, holding back the scorching and inexplicably tingling sensation.

Brushing aside her hair, he could clearly see her side profile. As his gaze lingered on her, it inadvertently fell on the wound on her nose, and his brow furrowed slightly.

"Does your nose still hurt?" he asked in a low voice.

"It's okay…" It didn't hurt as much as before, and since it wasn't a serious injury, the subsequent discomfort was directly ignored.

"Don't stand in front of me next time."

"It's not… it's just that at that time…"

"No matter when." He interrupted her explanation, his tone domineering. "No matter the circumstances, don't take the hurt for me."

"I was worried about you…" Gu Siyi was a little aggrieved.

"I know. But," he paused and said in a low voice, "I don't want you to get hurt even more."

"…" Her aggrieved heart suddenly melted into a puddle of water.

"Remember, I'm the one who protects you."

Gu Siyi raised her eyes and met Xia Zhijun's gaze. She saw the seriousness and determination in his eyes, as if it wasn't just a sentence, but a promise, a belief.

Her heart was in a flurry and warm, and she didn't know what to say. After a long while, she choked out, "Thank you."

"You're welcome." Xia Zhijun smiled. "How about playing a few games with me?"

Gu Siyi's face fell, and she said truthfully, "I promised my mom that I would quit games. She's afraid that playing games will affect my studies."

"It's okay if I take you to play."

"Why?"

"Because I can improve your academic performance."

"…" The pride of a school god, tsk tsk.

Gu Siyi's once firm heart was so unprincipledly compromised.

"I'm better at playing PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, not so much at Honor of Kings."

"Then let's play PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds." Lu Jiaye liked to play this and often dragged him along. Xia Zhijun was also quite good at it.

The two sat down against the wall, Gu Siyi waiting for the game to download.

A gust of wind blew by, opening her shawl. She draped the other side over Xia Zhijun. "Let's share this, don't catch a cold."

Xia Zhijun didn't stand on ceremony and leaned closer to her, sharing the warmth.

A faint fragrance, a scent that made him feel comfortable and liked, lingered in his breath.

Xia Zhijun's heart was conflicted.

He knew this wasn't good, keeping her on the rooftop so late at night, playing games after applying the medicine.

It was already past twelve o'clock, almost one o'clock. He should let her go back to the dorm and rest. She still had classes tomorrow.

But there was a devil in his heart devouring his reason.

He didn't want to part with her, he just wanted time to stop here.

In this small world within this shawl, there was enough warmth, enough happiness for him to draw on.

This was too much, completely crushing his reason. He let himself cling to her, greedily wanting to prolong this moment indefinitely.

Gu Siyi played several games in a row with Xia Zhijun. She was still quite energetic at the beginning, and the two experts basically crushed their opponents.

But it was getting too late after all, and the more Gu Siyi played, the sleepier she became. Her head was nodding like a chicken pecking at rice.

Xia Zhijun saw this but didn't say anything. After finishing one round, before she could speak, he immediately started another…

Gu Siyi's head was groggy, her eyes almost unable to open. She tried hard to keep herself awake, even secretly pinching her palm, but to no avail. Sleepiness washed over her like a tidal wave.

"Am I being selfish?"

"…Huh?" Gu Siyi struggled to maintain her consciousness and talk to him.

"I have insomnia, and I had to drag you along with me."

"It's okay…" As soon as she finished speaking, she let out a long yawn. "We're good friends… You're so nice, I'm willing to do anything for you…"

"Be my girlfriend, are you willing?"
