Chapter 146: Little Kids' Quarrel

The two people in the living room were glued to the TV, completely absorbed in the Journey to the West playing on the screen.

Now, this was what brothers should be like.

They were so engrossed that they didn't even notice when Mr. Kang quietly opened the door.

Mr. Kang had initially thought that Kangkang wouldn't enjoy Journey to the West at his age, that he wouldn't be interested in the magical Sun Wukong with his seventy-two transformations.

Now he realized that Kangkang simply didn't like watching cartoons with him.

As someone who had spent a considerable amount of time with Kangkang and genuinely adored children, Mr. Kang waited patiently by the door. Finally, the episode reached the part where the Monkey King went to see his master in the middle of the night to learn magic.

Mr. Kang took out his phone…

Two minutes later, the door to the adjacent bedroom opened.

The two in the living room immediately switched off the TV. However, it was big dad who emerged from the room.

Kangkang, acting as if nothing had happened, prepared to return to his own bedroom.

"Little Treasure? Why are you still awake at this hour?"

Kangkang yawned, rubbed his eyes, and said in a sleepy voice, "Dad, I'm going to bed. Let's talk about anything tomorrow morning."

Yue Qin walked over, picked up his son who was up in the middle of the night, and felt the TV: "You're watching TV in the middle of the night?"

Seeing that he couldn't keep up the act any longer, Kangkang came clean: "I only watched one episode. Sun Wukong is about to learn magic."

Yue Qin was puzzled: "But you said you didn't want to watch this afternoon?"

Kangkang sighed: "Little Parrot told me everything that was going to happen before I even started watching."

He wanted to watch it himself, not have someone explain it to him. He wasn't stupid. Yue Qin said, "That doesn't mean you can stay up to watch it. Children need to sleep at night, otherwise they won't grow tall."

"Your dad is so tall because he slept well at night." Yue Qin yawned as he spoke. He was actually sleepy himself.

He had been awakened from his sleep by a phone call. The voice on the other end was disguised by a voice changer app.

"Yue Qin, do you want to know what's happening in your living room?"

He was startled by the voice and woke up instantly. Then he glanced at the caller ID: "Big Brother?"

The voice on the other end returned to normal: "You better get up. Kangkang is up in the middle of the night watching TV. Children won't grow tall if they don't sleep at night. Don't let him develop this bad habit."

Yue Qin got up and opened the door to find his son indeed sitting on the sofa, looking as if he hadn't done anything wrong.

However, Mr. Kang had once again tattled on Kangkang.

Yue Qin carried his son back to his room: "Go to sleep. When you watch cartoons tomorrow, talk to Big Brother and tell him how you really feel."

It wasn't a big deal; they just needed to communicate and reconcile.

On the other side, Mr. Kang, seeing that the late-night cartoon session was over, left the doorway, his mission accomplished!

Children were still young; how could they stay up in the middle of the night to watch cartoons?

Early the next morning, Mr. Kang was hungry and went straight to the kitchen for food. However, he was taken aback as soon as he entered.

In the kitchen, Xia Sheng was heating up chicken and vermicelli soup, adding vegetables to it.

Mr. Kang was stunned.

Usually, he was the one who raided the kitchen in the morning, looking for leftovers like sweet fermented rice, crispy pork, or pancakes.

Now, suddenly, there was another person in the kitchen, and she had even heated up the chicken and vermicelli soup that he had been craving last night.

Mr. Kang observed for a moment, then left the kitchen with a disgruntled expression.

But he didn't say anything. She was his brother-in-law's biological sister, and he was just a long-lost cousin, a fake one at that.

Xia Sheng was a little surprised. She had woken up early, feeling hungry around 5 am. Since she couldn't wait until 7:30 for breakfast with everyone else, she decided to find something to eat.

As a result, just as she had finished heating up her food, her brother-in-law's cousin walked into the kitchen cheerfully. But upon seeing her, he left the kitchen looking as if he had been struck by frost.

Xia Sheng looked out from the kitchen and saw him sitting on the sofa, shrouded in a gloomy aura.

Xia Sheng thought, what's the big deal?

Mr. Kang sat on the sofa, the popcorn from last night's cartoon-watching session still on the coffee table.

Every single piece of popcorn seemed to be a testament to the fact that Kangkang didn't enjoy watching cartoons with him.

Mr. Kang felt a wave of disappointment wash over him. He had originally thought that everyone liked him.

Now, however, he had new thoughts.

Xia Sheng walked out, unable to bear it any longer. It was ruining her breakfast mood.

She placed a half-bowl of chicken and vermicelli soup in front of Mr. Kang, the aroma of chicken filling the air.

"It's just chicken and vermicelli soup. What's the big deal?" As she spoke, Xia Sheng pulled up a chair and sat down with a large bowl filled to the brim.

Mr. Kang looked at the small bowl in front of him, then at her large bowl.

"What?" Xia Sheng turned her head, her gaze sharp, as if to say, "If you have a problem with it, you won't even get this small bowl."

Fine, beggars can't be choosers. Mr. Kang picked up his chopsticks and started eating with a wronged expression.

Xia Sheng ate with gusto. Her sister couldn't cook, let alone her. The food she had eaten in the past six months… was simply indescribable.

Only the two of them and the sound of slurping noodles filled the living room.

Mr. Kang finished his small bowl quickly, while Xia Sheng continued to enjoy her large bowl.

Perhaps unable to ignore the gaze from beside her any longer, Xia Sheng paused and asked, "Forget it, how about I cook you some snail noodles? They have some left."

Mr. Kang immediately waved his hand. He would never eat such a heretical dish as snail noodles!

"Then stop staring at me."

With nothing else to do, Mr. Kang thought for a moment and said, "I won't watch you eat. Let's chat."

"Hmm? What do you want to talk about?"

"Have you ever been hated by anyone?"

"Is there anyone in this world who can avoid being hated?" Xia Sheng paused and looked at the young man beside her.

She had initially thought he was a mature freeloader, but now she realized he was like an elementary school student.

Really, anyone older wouldn't ask such a question.

"It's fine if others hate me, but there's someone I really like, and not only does he hate me, but he also watches TV with others and refuses to watch it with me," Mr. Kang said.

Xia Sheng's gaze became even more incredulous. This felt like a conflict between elementary school kids.

"Then… go play with other kids. Don't play with him anymore?" Xia Sheng's voice softened, coaxing him gently.

Mr. Kang was speechless: "That tone you use to哄小朋友 (coax children), isn't it a bit much?"

"I couldn't control my emotions." Xia Sheng was a little curious: "Who did you have such a big fight with?"

"Kangkang."

Xia Sheng: "…Then you can go play with other kids."

Ignoring her teasing, Mr. Kang sighed and said, "You don't understand… It's like when you thought someone really liked you, but you find out they don't actually want to play with you at all."

You would be furious and even report them for watching cartoons in the middle of the night, making them unable to watch it!

Xia Sheng: "Alright, do you want more chicken and vermicelli soup?"

Mr. Kang glanced at her large bowl: "I don't want any that you've eaten from."

"No, there's more in the pot in the kitchen."

Mr. Kang: "…"

Watching him rush into the kitchen excitedly, Xia Sheng thought, it seems that he's not just childish in his troubles, but also in how easily he's appeased.
