Chapter 86: Helping Out

Xia Sheng had planned to take the kids out to play on Saturday. She had been busy preparing for the performance and her work at the art center, and hadn't had much time to spend with them.

Who would have thought something like this would happen?

The child was earnestly describing how Little Parrot and his two brothers would chat every night. He spoke with such excitement and animation, just like a real child.

Listening to him, Xia Sheng couldn't help but ask, "Are you really the person I think you are?"

The child immediately stopped talking and said awkwardly, "I think so."

Xia Sheng was an adult, and the other party was also an adult. Now that the atmosphere was right, they could have a serious conversation.

"Then are you still planning to tell Yue Qin about this?"

Mr. Kang had originally worked up the courage to tell him, but courage seemed to disappear after being used once.

"Forget it."

"Okay." Xia Sheng didn't force him to say anything. After all, saying it now didn't seem to have any positive impact on the situation.

The only problem was that whenever she saw him, she would remember that he was actually the twenty-something-year-old adult boss she had met before.

That extremely disrespectful adult.

And he seemed to be very comfortable calling her "mom" when he spoke to her.

"Mom, if you want me to tell him who I am, I can work up the courage again." Mr. Kang thought for a moment and said.

Xia Sheng replied, "It doesn't matter. It's just that there's something else I want to make clear to you…"

Every time he called her "mom," she felt a chill down her spine. It would have been better if he were a stranger's child.

Mr. Kang looked up, his small hands on his knees, looking like he was listening attentively to his mother. "Go ahead."

Xia Sheng was about to speak but changed her mind. "Just eat as you normally would. Growing children need proper nutrition."

"Okay, I'll remember that." Mr. Kang replied.

Xia Sheng rubbed her temples and continued to look at the computer screen. She really didn't know how to get along with this person.

They didn't seem to have any major problems getting along before.

She was afraid of parent-child relationships, let alone this kind of completely broken mother-son relationship.

Xia Sheng could only start searching on the computer screen again. In the reflection of the screen, she could see the child sitting behind her, seemingly wanting to talk to her again.

Xia Sheng turned her head and wanted to ask him what he wanted to say, but the child lowered his head and started playing with building blocks.

Xia Sheng continued to look at the search results on the computer screen. She found that many of the search terms had already been searched by her husband before.

So, Xia Sheng simply went to the history records to search, which was more convenient.

Mr. Kang felt so awkward. He didn't know why. He didn't have much to say to his violent mother before. His violent mother had been really busy lately, but even when they didn't have much to say, it wasn't awkward.

But now, he felt so awkward that he could feel time passing by slowly. The second hand of the clock in the living room was really ticking away second by second.

Mr. Kang wished his dad would come back soon, or that Little Parrot would wake up and play, so they wouldn't have to be alone together.

"Ding dong—ding dong—" Just then, the doorbell rang.

Mr. Kang immediately got up and ran over. "I'll get it!"

Xia Sheng still remembered that he was just a child, so she also got up and followed him. After all, it was not safe to let a child open the door.

As soon as Mr. Kang opened the door, the first thing that came into view was a handbag. It was a knitted handbag with a small red flower on it.

The owner of the handbag was an old lady that Mr. Kang was very familiar with. She was wearing a long gray dress and a sun hat. The old lady was dressed very elegantly. Seeing the child who opened the door, she said, "Are your parents home?"

Mr. Kang had a deep impression of her. This was the old lady who would say something sarcastic within three sentences, his violent mother's grandmother.

In Mr. Kang's life experience, he really didn't know what to call his mother's grandmother.

The old lady just walked straight in. "I want a cup of Pu'er tea, with good tea leaves. I'm not short of money."

Mr. Kang quickly stopped her. "Sorry, we're not open today."

Just then, his mother came over.

There was no one else outside. It goes without saying that the old lady had come alone again.

Xia Sheng said, "Let her in."

Mr. Kang could only lead the old lady to the sofa and let her sit down. The old lady touched the sofa cushion. Her whole reaction was a little slow, like an old machine that had been idle for many years. She sat for a while.

Xia Sheng went to the kitchen to pour a cup of tea. She could feel that her emotions were going to break down today.

The old lady came at the worst possible time. Wasn't this challenging her limits?

Xia Sheng took a deep breath. Outside were the old lady and the child, a seventy-year-old lady and a four-year-old child.

She had to stay calm.

At this time, she could still hear the old lady's voice outside, as if it had traveled through twenty years.

"Are you a girl? You look like a boy."

Xia Sheng took another deep breath. In a moment, when her mother arrived…

Xia Sheng missed Yue Qin. She wanted to see him right now.

However, when she came out, she saw a little flower fairy in the living room.

It was the same petal dress and flower crown as last time. Xia Sheng suddenly remembered how helpful the other party had been last time.

"I'm a girl, a pretty little girl." The little flower fairy even bounced twice as she spoke.

The old lady silently covered her eyes, as if they had been hurt.

When Xia Sheng brought out the tea, the child couldn't help but wink and whisper, "Don't worry, I understand."

It was at this moment that Xia Sheng realized she had made her husband's former boss wear a flower dress three times.

Moreover, her former boss seemed quite comfortable, fiddling with the flowers on the garland.

The old lady took a sip of tea and said, "This tea is much better than last time."

Xia Sheng looked at the plain boiled water. Forget it, it was fine as long as the old lady liked it.

After drinking the tea, the old lady felt that this teahouse would close down sooner or later. It was a pity for this little girl, so she chatted with her, "Have you gone to school? What do you want to be when you grow up?"

The child looked up and said innocently, "I want to be a little princess."
