Chapter 140: Filling the Void

Mr. Kang was acting strange. Even as a child, he found it boring to watch other kids ride the small train at the amusement park and scream with childish glee.

He never wanted to ride it himself. Now that he was older, he found it somewhat interesting.

As soon as the train stopped, Xia Sheng went to get the children.

It was only then that she noticed Little Kangkang hadn't smiled at all. On the other hand, Big Kangkang was grinning from ear to ear. "Let's ride it again!"

Xia Sheng quickly put on her Mom voice. "No more, no more. Once is enough."

Little Kangkang breathed a sigh of relief. He really didn't want to go through that embarrassing experience again.

Thankfully, his brother was obedient and didn't ask to ride again.

The three of them walked towards the shopping mall. Next to it was a large market, hawking all kinds of snacks.

It instantly brought back happy memories of shopping with Yue Qin.

Xia Sheng hadn't been to the mall in ages. Ever since having children, she had been extremely busy. When she needed something, she would decide what to buy and where to buy it in advance, and then go straight home after the purchase.

Just then, Yue Qin called.

"Which mall did you go to? I'll come find you."

Xia Sheng told him they were at the mall to buy some things.

"Leting Mall."

"I'll be there in about fifteen minutes."

When Yue Qin arrived, he saw his wife and children sitting on a bench outside the mall. The two adults were gnawing on corn on the cob, the younger child was holding a balloon, and the older one was watching the small train go by.

Seeing Yue Qin, Xia Sheng handed him a paper bag containing a corn cob. "Here, have some corn."

Yue Qin sat down, remembering the time when they were in college. They didn't have much money, so they would buy a corn cob and sit in the square, watching people square dance.

Back then, it was just the two of them. They never thought about what it would be like to have children. After all, having children seemed like a very distant thing for them at that time.

Now, the family of four sat in the same spot, continuing to watch the square dance.

After finishing the corn, Yue Qin realized something. "You haven't bought anything yet?"

Big Kangkang replied, "We don't need much, just some household items. We'll go back as soon as we find them."

Big Kangkang was very confident that they could just buy some random things and go home.

Looking at the naive Big Kangkang, Yue Qin held his younger son and said to his wife, "Since we're out, we should buy some autumn and winter clothes."

Xia Sheng said with a hint of regret, "It's a pity Lingling isn't back yet." She used to shop for clothes with her sister.

Her husband, on the other hand, only had two words for her fashion choices: "Looks good."

Yue Qin looked at his younger son, then at Big Kangkang. At least this time, someone could chat with him while shopping for clothes.

Whenever his wife went shopping for clothes, she would always go with Xia Ling and never asked for his opinion. He would just sit there by himself.

However, half an hour later…

Yue Qin and Little Kangkang were sitting on the sofa in a women's clothing store, watching the other two pick out clothes.

Big Kangkang said with a disgusted expression, "This style is not good. It will make you look bloated."

"This one is okay, try it on."

Yue Qin and Little Kangkang looked at each other. "What are they talking about?"

Xia Sheng was also confused. "Why do you know so much about women's clothing?"

Mr. Kang was a little ashamed to admit it. To avoid the misunderstanding that he liked women's clothing, he said, "I've had a lot of girlfriends."

Mr. Kang had countless girlfriends since he was a child. He was good to each of them, giving them everything and wanting them to love him. But for some reason, most of his relationships didn't last more than two months.

Some were initiated by him, and some were initiated by the other party.

Xia Sheng understood. As long as he didn't cheat or manipulate anyone, and it was mutual, she didn't mind Mr. Kang making friends.

"How did you guys get together?" Xia Sheng asked while picking out clothes.

They all say that raising children is like making pancakes. The first pancake is always messed up due to inexperience. Now that she had a messed-up pancake, she wanted to learn from the experience.

Mr. Kang recalled, "My first love was when I was seven or eight years old. A little girl in our neighborhood said I was good-looking, and if I was willing to be her boyfriend, she would give me 5 yuan every day, which was her daily allowance."

Xia Sheng couldn't help but laugh. "So you gave in for 5 yuan?"

"No, it was then that I realized everyone was trying to cheat me out of my money. I hated it when people took my money." Mr. Kang recalled with some embarrassment for his childhood self. "At that time, someone suddenly offered me money because I was good-looking, so I agreed."

"Then how did you break up?"

"Later, I found out that her daily allowance was actually 50 yuan."

"Well, even if she had 50 yuan, giving you 5 yuan isn't that bad."

"She also had three other boyfriends."

"So you broke up with her?"

"No."

"Then why did you break up?"

"The other three boyfriends were all paid more than me!" Mr. Kang felt angry just thinking about it, as if he was back in his childhood.

Xia Sheng laughed so hard that she had no strength to continue choosing clothes. "That's too much! How could they be worth more than you?"

However, this first love was very much in line with Mr. Kang's character.

"It wasn't without its gains. I learned a lesson from it: always keep your salary confidential, otherwise, comparisons are inevitable." After growing up, Mr. Kang made all his girlfriends sign confidentiality agreements regarding their allowances.

Reject comparison, reject the materialization of love!

As she listened, Xia Sheng couldn't help but laugh again. "Well, it's not a loss, not a loss."

Big Kangkang knew she was laughing at him, but he wasn't angry at all. "Don't think that everyone can be as lucky as you two, finding each other at the right time."

Honestly, he really felt that Yue Qin and Xia Sheng were a perfect match. Their personalities and hobbies were too compatible.

Every time they appeared together, their love seemed to flow effortlessly.

Mr. Kang sighed.

"Mr. Kang?" He looked up and saw a girl staring at him in surprise.

He froze for a moment, quickly recalling that this was one of his ex-girlfriends. She used to be a paparazzi who followed him around. He found her interesting, and they dated for a while.

It was instantly awkward.

Fortunately, she just glanced at him, then at Xia Sheng, also looking a little embarrassed, and quickly left.

It was only then that Mr. Kang remembered that he was not a child anymore. It was not appropriate for him to go shopping with Xia Sheng like this. Their magazine loved to write sensational gossip.

So he said to Yue Qin, "I'll be right back."

"Jiayi."

The girl stopped and turned around, seemingly confused as to why he had followed her out. She waited for him to speak.

Mr. Kang said, "That person just now is my sister-in-law, my real sister-in-law, so…"

"Our magazine doesn't do tabloid journalism anymore," the girl interrupted.

Mr. Kang breathed a sigh of relief. "So you're finally someone who can speak her mind?" He remembered that she didn't want to be a paparazzi back then, but she had no say in the matter.

"You still remember?" The girl was taken aback and smiled.

"Of course I remember." Mr. Kang was serious about every one of his girlfriends.

"Have you found the girl who can give you unconditional love?"

Mr. Kang was about to say something, but then he suddenly realized that he hadn't been in a relationship for a long time.

During this period, he hadn't been yearning for love. When he saw beautiful girls, he would appreciate them, but he wouldn't think about dating or starting a relationship.

It was as if the bottomless pit in his heart had been filled, and he no longer craved things from the outside world.
