Chapter 85: Chapter 85

Xing Quan and Wu Yi had both changed their clothes. It was obvious that, with the carnage inside, their original clothes must have been covered in blood. They must have cleaned themselves up.

Fortunately, although they were facing Bei Nuan's direction, their expressions didn't change.

It seemed that even though they had met once, they weren't familiar enough to see her.

Bei Nuan's heart steadied a little.

The cargo hold wasn't as spacious as the passenger cabin. The corridor was narrow, only a little over a meter wide. The two men walked side-by-side, leaving Bei Nuan no room to dodge.

Too close for comfort, Bei Nuan quickly retreated, making a slight noise in her haste.

Wu Yi immediately said alertly, "Brother Xing, I hear footsteps. It sounds like someone's there."

The two stopped and listened intently.

If the enemy doesn't move, I won't move either. Bei Nuan also froze, holding her breath.

Xing Quan and Wu Yi listened for a moment, and, hearing nothing unusual, continued forward.

Bei Nuan immediately walked towards the exit, trying to match her steps to theirs, so that her footsteps were masked by theirs.

They talked as they walked. Wu Yi was saying, "Da Zhao and the others are idiots. That Sheng guy clearly wanted us to kill each other, and they actually fell for it."

Xing Quan replied, "It doesn't matter if they fought. Didn't we slaughter those little bastards? They're all dead, and we're not even injured."

It seemed these two had won the quarter-final match.

But things still got out of control, leaving only the two of them alive.

Bei Nuan wasn't surprised that Xing Quan survived. What puzzled her most was how they got out of a locked and guarded door.

However, there was no time to ponder this now. The most urgent task was to inform the people on the ship.

Boss Lu wasn't here, and neither was Nie Bei'an. Bei Nuan didn't know anyone else on board, so she could only look for Jiang Fei and the others. She also needed to inform Sheng Yi.

They may be vicious, but there are only two of them, Bei Nuan comforted herself. The situation is much better than described in the book.

"I'm starving. I haven't eaten since morning," Wu Yi complained. "That coward Lao Yu, blood sprayed all over the steamed buns. Perfectly good buns, ruined."

"We'll have something to eat soon," Xing Quan soothed him.

You're hungry? Bei Nuan thought. Opportunities for completing tasks are practically raining down from the sky.

Bei Nuan quickened her pace, rounded the corner ahead of them, and pulled out the half-stick of chewing gum left over from the tall, thin man, tossing it on the floor.

As Wu Yi turned the corner, he spotted it and immediately picked it up.

"Who dropped this?"

"Chewing gum?" Xing Quan glanced at it.

Wu Yi unwrapped it, offered a piece to Xing Quan, then popped two pieces into his own mouth. He chewed for a bit. "Sweet, but it doesn't fill you up."

Their gullibility filled Bei Nuan with regret. If only she had some sort of fictional poison, she could have taken them down in an instant.

However, the task had progressed. "Saintly Tolerance" was now (4/5).

Only one left. Victory was in sight.

As Bei Nuan was contemplating whether to feed the target another piece of gum, they reached the exit.

Climbing the ladder led to the outer deck.

Bei Nuan temporarily put the task aside, worried that the two would start attacking people once they were on deck.

However, they didn't. Instead, they avoided others, sticking to the dark corners.

Understandable. Taking on an entire ship by themselves would be quite a challenge.

She wondered what their plan was.

Then she heard Xing Quan whisper to Wu Yi, "I wonder if the truly dangerous people on board have really gone ashore."

His voice was low, a bit hard to hear. Bei Nuan boldly moved closer, straining to eavesdrop.

She felt a bit puzzled.

They had been locked in the cargo hold. How did they get such timely information? How did they know that Captain Nie and the others had gone ashore?

Then she thought, maybe they had found a way out of their confinement, captured a crew member guarding them, and forced a confession.

Wu Yi asked, "Brother Xing, should we steal a life raft, or actually go after that Sheng guy?"

Xing Quan didn't hesitate. "At this point, if we're going to gamble, let's go big. Let's kill Sheng."

They were going to kill Sheng Yi.

Bei Nuan found them strange.

If it were her, she would definitely steal a life raft. What good would killing Sheng Yi do?

Xing Quan suddenly turned his head, looking in Bei Nuan's direction. "I feel like there's something over there…"

Someone?

Bei Nuan mentally finished his sentence and quickly retreated.

Xing Quan glanced suspiciously in her direction, but, finding nothing, continued walking.

Bei Nuan hesitated. Should she cause a commotion to alert everyone to these two? She quickly dismissed the idea.

The deck was full of people, old and young. Both men were armed with knives. Who knew what would happen if they were cornered?

It was better to find a way to deal with them quietly.

They continued walking with a clear objective.

Bei Nuan was still puzzled. They seemed to know exactly where Sheng Yi would be, heading straight for the aft deck on the upper level where Sheng Yi often stayed.

Bei Nuan had no time to go back to her room to get Jiang Fei and the others. She could only follow Xing Quan and Wu Yi for now.

It was dark now, and Sheng Yi was blind. He would be at a severe disadvantage.

But Bei Nuan was invisible. Xing Quan and Wu Yi couldn't see her, giving her an advantage. Maybe she could help.

Having no other choice, Bei Nuan followed closely, rearranging the usable items in her space for easy access.

Sheng Yi was indeed in his usual spot from yesterday.

He was still in his wheelchair, a blanket draped over his knees, facing the calm night sea.

This place was secluded. No one ever came here, not even Secretary Li, who usually accompanied him.

Xing Quan and Wu Yi also saw Sheng Yi. They didn't approach directly, but drew their knives, hiding in the shadows to observe.

"He really can't see at night, right?" Wu Yi asked.

"Probably," Xing Quan replied.

Bei Nuan thought, They just boarded the ship and were immediately locked up. I was present from the moment they boarded until they were confined. I didn't hear anyone tell them about the situation on the ship.

When they were escorted to the cargo hold, the kind-hearted Secretary Li had chatted non-stop with Xing Quan.

But now that Bei Nuan thought about it, Secretary Li had been asking about the fishing boat and Xing Quan's experiences, not saying a word about the Vali. Very cunning.

Yet Xing Quan and Wu Yi seemed to know Sheng Yi's situation quite well.

Bei Nuan wondered if they had also been reborn.

Regardless of whether they were reborn or not, Bei Nuan ignored them and rushed to Sheng Yi's side.

As soon as she arrived, Sheng Yi sensed her presence and turned his head.

"Don't speak," Bei Nuan whispered, leaning close.

"Xing Quan and the other man who were locked in the cargo hold have escaped. They're planning to kill you. They're hiding behind that large metal crate over there," Bei Nuan whispered. "Is there any way you can call for help?"

Sheng Yi's expression remained calm. He didn't make a sound, only shaking his head almost imperceptibly.

Bei Nuan sighed inwardly. She could only rely on herself.

"Don't worry," Bei Nuan said. "I'll find a way to deal with them."

These two were ruthless. She wasn't sure if she could handle them.

But in this situation, with Sheng Yi blind and immobile in a wheelchair, she had to try.

She had to step up, no matter what.

"Sheng Yi, move your wheelchair forward half a meter," Bei Nuan instructed.

There was a lamppost by the railing. The light wasn't on, probably broken, but there was a foothold on the base.

Bei Nuan climbed onto it.

Sheng Yi obediently moved his wheelchair next to the lamppost.

Standing high above, Bei Nuan was in a perfect position to drop something on anyone who tried to approach Sheng Yi.

The only problem was that the lamppost was close to the railing. Standing on it, she was right next to the open sea, feeling like she might fall overboard at any moment.

Standing so high made her a little dizzy.

Bei Nuan clutched the lamppost tightly, preventing herself from looking back at the sea below, focusing on Xing Quan and Wu Yi.

Sheng Yi suddenly spoke, as if knowing where she was, looking up. "Bei Nuan, come down."

He looked nervous, more nervous than when he learned someone was coming to kill him.

"It's okay, I'm holding onto the post," Bei Nuan whispered, not particularly afraid. "I'm invisible. Xing Quan and the other guy can't see me. This is the perfect spot to ambush them."

"Come down! The ship will rock. It's too dangerous up there." Sheng Yi didn't even bother controlling his volume.

There was movement from Xing Quan's side. Bei Nuan saw them look around, and, seeing no one, they crept towards Sheng Yi, knives glinting in their hands. They were taking advantage of Sheng Yi's blindness.

Bei Nuan steadied herself, waiting for them to get close enough to drop the propane tank.

"Bei Nuan, don't move. I'll handle this myself," Sheng Yi suddenly said.

Bei Nuan clearly saw that as Xing Quan and Wu Yi approached, Sheng Yi pulled a dagger from under his seat.

Bei Nuan was stunned. He's going to do it himself? But he can't see. Can he really do it?

Just as Bei Nuan was momentarily stunned, Wu Yi arrived and raised his knife at Sheng Yi.

Then Wu Yi collapsed.

Bei Nuan, being close and having a high vantage point, saw everything clearly. Sheng Yi did make a gesture with the dagger, but it didn't even touch Wu Yi.

Bei Nuan immediately understood why.

Embedded in Wu Yi's chest, right where his heart was, was a small black dot that Bei Nuan had seen countless times and was intimately familiar with.

It was a long nail, driven in all the way to the base, usually found in the center of a zombie's forehead.

Lu Xingchi had arrived.

With him here, there was nothing to fear. Overjoyed, Bei Nuan quickly looked around, but couldn't see him.

Lu Xingchi's arrows were too fast, and it was too dark to see their trajectory. She had no idea where he was hiding.

Looking down again, she saw Xing Quan collapse as well, unsurprisingly with a nail in his chest, right over his heart.

A Gu King she had painstakingly cultivated had just died silently.

But Bei Nuan noticed something was wrong with Sheng Yi.

He was clutching his chest, blood seeping out and staining a large area.

Did the Gu King manage to stab Sheng Yi before collapsing? Did Lu Xingchi not have time to save him? How is that possible?

Sheng Yi gasped in pain, bent over, and tumbled out of his wheelchair onto the deck.

Bei Nuan quickly jumped down from the lamppost base, crouched down, and cradled his head, trying to help him up.

Where's Lu Xingchi?

Bei Nuan looked around. Sheng Yi was injured. Why was Lu Xingchi still hiding and not coming out?

Sheng Yi suddenly spoke to Bei Nuan, his voice so low that only she could hear. "In the previous life, I wasn't killed by Xing Quan and his accomplice."

Bei Nuan: ?

"Someone attacked me from behind, catching me off guard. They stabbed me. Even though I couldn't see, I could feel it was someone I knew."

What did he mean?

As Bei Nuan was still processing this, Sheng Yi whispered, "Don't make a sound. He's coming."

Sheng Yi rolled out of Bei Nuan's arms and onto the deck, feigning intense pain.

Not far away, in a dark corner, a figure emerged.

Bei Nuan recognized him. It was First Mate Zhai from the ship.

His back was hunched as always, his shoulders slumped. His dark face still looked honest and reliable, his eyes timid, his expression cautious.

He first glanced at the three bodies on the deck before cautiously approaching.

"Mr. Sheng?" he called softly, bending down. "Are you alright?"

He couldn't see Bei Nuan, only Sheng Yi curled up on the deck, bleeding from his chest.

He clearly saw something serious had happened, yet he wasn't panicking or rushing to help. His behavior was extremely odd.

Following Sheng Yi's instructions, Bei Nuan remained silent.

Sheng Yi's expression was pained. He gasped for breath, extending a hand towards First Mate Zhai. "Old Zhai… I've been stabbed. Help me…"

Bei Nuan noticed his voice was much weaker and more broken than when he had told her to be quiet.

First Mate Zhai took two steps closer, studying Sheng Yi carefully. A mysterious smile crept onto his lips.

"Mr. Sheng, rest in peace," First Mate Zhai said. "I'll make sure you have a grand burial at sea."

Bei Nuan: "…"

Sheng Yi continued gasping, disbelief in his eyes. "First Mate Zhai?" Then, "Are you working with them?"

First Mate Zhai chuckled. "Who would work with those country bumpkins? I don't know them. But I did let them out. I sent the guards away and unlocked their cell. I promised them safe passage ashore if they killed you."

Bei Nuan thought, So that's it.

That's how Xing Quan and Wu Yi managed to escape despite the multiple locks and guards.

And as soon as they escaped, they came straight here to find Sheng Yi, knowing he was blind at night.

They weren't reborn. They knew so much because there was an inside man.

First Mate Zhai was using them to do his dirty work.

Judging by what Sheng Yi had just said, it was likely him who killed Sheng Yi in the previous life as well.

Come to think of it, the book didn't go into detail. Perhaps, even in the book, Xing Quan and Wu Yi's easy takeover of the ship was also related to this First Mate Zhai.

First Mate Zhai squatted down in front of Sheng Yi.

"Mr. Sheng, you brought this upon yourself. I've spent my entire life on this ship, working my way up to First Mate, one step away from becoming Captain. But you refused to promote me."

First Mate Zhai's face contorted. "That Nie Bei'an, a greenhorn, you insisted on promoting him. He's shot up the ranks in recent years and is already the Captain. Hmph."

"I'll sail away soon and leave that Nie Bei'an to be Captain in a horde of zombies. If you won't let me be Captain, I'll promote myself."

He was right. If Sheng Yi died, he could simply lie, abandon Nie Bei'an on shore, and everyone on the ship would surely listen to him, the First Mate. The First Mate would naturally become the Captain.

After speaking, First Mate Zhai studied Sheng Yi again. "Mr. Sheng, you're dying so slowly. Let me help you along."

He bent down and picked up Xing Quan's dropped knife.

"Anyway, anyone who sees this will think you three fought and that they killed you. No one will suspect me."

Sheng Yi waited calmly for him to finish, then suddenly removed his hand from his chest and sat up.

Bei Nuan thought, Villains always die from talking too much. Bye bye.

However, to Bei Nuan's surprise, Sheng Yi not only sat up but also stood up, as if nothing had happened.

Using his own two legs.

Even Bei Nuan stared at him in astonishment.

Hadn't he been in a car accident that left his legs paralyzed, forcing him to use a wheelchair?

First Mate Zhai was also startled, speechless with shock.

The moon had risen, bathing everything in silver light. Sheng Yi calmly looked down at First Mate Zhai, his gaze no longer the usual hazy, unfocused look, but sharp and piercing for the first time.

He smiled slightly and asked First Mate Zhai, "Surprised?"
