Chapter 8: Chapter 8

Bei Nuan was lost in thought when she suddenly felt someone poke her arm.

It was the man. He was still gasping for air, trying to force a hoarse sound from his throat.

“Phone -”

Each word seemed to be squeezed out of the narrow slit of his throat. It was difficult for him to speak.

He wants to borrow a phone?

Bei Nuan quickly took out her phone and stuffed it into his hand.

He struggled to dial a number and faced the phone. He couldn’t even speak. Finally, he squeezed out two words, “Bat-tery-”

Bei Nuan glanced at the shelf behind her and suddenly understood what he was trying to say.

Bei Nuan spoke into the phone for him, “He’s by the battery shelf.”

A few minutes later, a woman rushed over and took out an asthma inhaler from her bag.

The man sprayed it a few times, his breathing gradually calmed down, and became much smoother.

The sound of hearty laughter rang in her ears. The Holy Mother points rose again.

The woman kept thanking Bei Nuan. It turned out that the couple had heard the news of the virus outbreak in S City and were preparing to leave the city. They rushed to the supermarket to buy supplies. As a result, they got separated, and his phone and medicine were all in her bag.

The man wasn’t infected with the zombie virus at all, no wonder the mission wasn't completed.

But in any case, the Holy Mother points still rose successfully.

The alarm was lifted. Lu Xingchi silently gestured to Bei Nuan to meet at the door and turned to leave.

By the time Bei Nuan finished paying the bill and walked to the door with her bags, she found Lu Xingchi in the car. The back seat was piled high with things, and the ground of the parking lot was also full of things.

There were all kinds of tools that Bei Nuan didn’t recognize, as well as large barrels of purified water, storage batteries, and so on. She didn’t know where Lu Xingchi got them from.

Du Ruo hadn’t come back yet.

Lu Xingchi jumped out of the car, checked the things Bei Nuan had bought, picked out some and put them in the trunk, then pointed to the remaining bags on the ground.

“Put the rest in your space,” he said leisurely.

Bei Nuan: “…”

He said “space.”

Boss Lu, do you have to guess so accurately?

Lu Xingchi observed Bei Nuan’s expression and curled his lips slightly.

“I’ve known for a long time that your ability is space. At the gas station, I saw with my own eyes that you conjured up a durian and smashed it on someone’s head. Also, you took the things from the gas station convenience store, right? When I parked the car, I saw through the glass that the shelves were still full.”

There was nothing to say.

Bei Nuan flattened her mouth, bent down and tapped the bags on the ground. The bags disappeared one by one.

Watching Bei Nuan put the things from the back seat of the SUV into the space, Lu Xingchi asked about the size of the space, and then asked, “Can living people hide in it?”

Bei Nuan was a little regretful. “No, no living things can. They will die.”

Otherwise, if she encountered danger, she could just hide inside, wouldn’t that be great?

Bei Nuan had thought of this as soon as she got the space. At that time, she specially called up the space instruction manual to check.

It said that all living beings would die if they entered the space. As for the host, Bei Nuan, she couldn’t enter at all. Once she entered, it would be considered cheating and she would be sent back to the original world directly.

In other words, she couldn’t hide anyone, she could only put things in it.

Lu Xingchi pondered for a moment and asked, “Will zombies die if they go in?”

If she wasn't still unfamiliar with him, Bei Nuan would have wanted to pat Boss on the shoulder—

Although their heights were different, their thoughts were similar.

Bei Nuan had also thought about it. If all living things would die immediately after being put in, wouldn’t it be perfect for killing zombies?

If a zombie wants to bite someone, just tap it and put it into the space. Done.

Or if she sees a bad guy she doesn’t like, just tap it and put it into the space. Done.

However, it was not possible. The instructions clearly stated that the space absolutely could not be used to kill living things. It would be considered cheating by the system.

Bei Nuan lied, “No, if you put a zombie in, the space will explode.”

Lu Xingchi nodded slightly when he heard this, and his sharp eyes swept up and down Bei Nuan’s strange clothes. “Where is your space hidden?”

In apocalyptic novels, portable spaces were generally bracelets or jade pendants. Ninety-nine percent of them were passed down from ancestors, and ten out of ten required blood recognition.

Bei Nuan’s was not.

Bei Nuan looked at him warily. “None of your business. I won’t tell you.”

Knowing that she was afraid of being robbed, Lu Xingchi didn’t ask any further questions. He called Bei Nuan to the trunk and opened two aluminum alloy briefcases.

Bei Nuan was immediately speechless.

The large briefcase was filled with cash, and the small one was filled with neatly arranged gold bars, so golden that it was dazzling.

Bei Nuan had never seen so much money in her life.

Although money would soon become useless, it was still useful in the early days of the outbreak. Some people were accustomed to liking these colorful pieces of paper, and only later gradually accepted bartering.

“Put these two boxes in your space, too. The box with the gold is heavy and it’s too fuel-consuming to carry in the car.” Lu Xingchi said.

Bei Nuan recovered from her shock and asked, “You’re giving me all the supplies and money. Aren’t you afraid I’ll run away with it?”

“Even gold will be useless after a while, and,” Lu Xingchi said lightly, “A person who would risk being bitten by a zombie to save an asthmatic patient probably wouldn’t do something like running away with money.”

Lu Xingchi closed the suitcase with a snap and paused for a moment before continuing, “I remember when I was a child, when my grandmother was still alive, she also had severe asthma. If she had an attack, I would also hope that someone would go over and help her.”

Bei Nuan understood.

This was a coincidence, she had brushed up against Boss’s trust value.

What was the most precious and rarest thing in the apocalypse?

It wasn’t the survival supplies that were needed to survive, nor was it the deadly weapons that could kill.

It was a reliable character.

After all, good people generally died faster and would soon become an endangered species.

Bei Nuan’s face remained calm, but she secretly gave a cheer in her heart.

However, Lu Xingchi changed the subject. He leaned down to an inch away from Bei Nuan and stared into her eyes.

“On the other hand, if you’re really not reliable, your loss will definitely be greater than mine.”

After saying that, he stretched out his index finger and gently poked the invisible bullseye on Bei Nuan’s forehead.

This was a blatant threat.

Bei Nuan was unhappy and glared at him. Her forehead felt a chill, as if there was really an extra nail there.

Lu Xingchi seemed satisfied with Bei Nuan’s reaction. He actually smiled, withdrew his finger, turned around, and continued to pack his things.

Just as Bei Nuan put all these things into her space, Du Ruo came back.

“This is all the common medicine I can think of.” He put down the bag in his hand and said, “Lu Xingchi, I looked for two outdoor stores, but they were all closed.”

“You’re looking for an outdoor store?” Someone suddenly chimed in. “I know one.”

It was actually the couple from the supermarket just now.

The wife helped her husband to walk over slowly. The man looked much better now.

As luck would have it, the man had an old friend who grew up with him who owned an outdoor store. One phone call and it was settled.

Twenty minutes later, everyone saw the treasure trove of a store.

The store sold outdoor goods as well as military supplies. The variety was very complete.

“Little girl, that neck brace of yours is no good. Try this.”

The owner brought out a bunch of good stuff.

A thin and soft stab-proof neck protector that looked like an ordinary neck warmer, as well as small stab-proof gloves.

A whole set of stab-proof clothing, like underwear, that couldn’t be seen at all when worn inside. It was as light, thin, and soft as ordinary clothes, comparable to a soft hedgehog armor.

Even a dagger couldn’t pierce through it, let alone a zombie’s teeth.

Bei Nuan took off her cervical spine treatment instrument, peeled off the magazine, put on the stab-proof clothes, and changed into a set of fitting hiking clothes and outdoor boots.

From head to toe, she had changed her weapons.

This was the true divine outfit of the apocalypse.

Du Ruo also changed into a set, but Lu Xingchi refused and continued to wear his non-apocalyptic clothes.

Bei Nuan didn’t force him.

He was the male lead, after all. Being handsome was the most important thing. Anyway, he probably wouldn’t die.

Lu Xingchi walked around the store and bought a lot of other outdoor supplies, such as tents, sleeping bags, inflatable sleeping pads, emergency lights, and so on.

Bei Nuan picked out several wood-burning stoves and cassette stoves, and asked the owner to bring out all the butane gas canisters in stock.

Lu Xingchi glanced at her stoves. “Are you going to flee for your life or go on a picnic?”

Bei Nuan answered while studying the cassette stove, “Fleeing for my life plus a picnic, I won’t delay anything.”

Before leaving, Lu Xingchi suggested to the owner of the outdoor store to exchange money for supplies as much as possible and hurry up and leave the city.

It was five o’clock in the afternoon.

Bei Nuan remembered clearly that the book said that when the clock in the city center struck seven, the first batch of zombies would break through the checkpoint and pour into Ning City.

If the beta system didn’t mess around anymore, the defense line of Ning City would collapse in about two hours.

The three of them left the outdoor store. Bei Nuan thought that Lu Xingchi would take everyone out of the city, but found that he drove back to the city center.

Many shops in the city center were still open.

“Your space is bigger than I expected. Let’s continue shopping,” Lu Xingchi whispered to Bei Nuan.

That’s right, while the supplies were still plentiful, they should make the best of their time and buy as much as they could.

It turned out that men were even more terrifying than women when they went on a shopping spree.

In a short while, Lu Xingchi handed over several stacks of identical white shirts, trousers, underwear, and so on to Bei Nuan, and said lightly, “For changing and washing.”

Bei Nuan really wanted to ask him in his own words, “May I ask, big brother, are you going to flee for your life or go on a business trip?”

After the third batch of things disappeared for no reason, Du Ruo finally realized what was going on.

After asking about the space, he also started to buy crazily.

The only imported food supermarket in Ning City was probably emptied by him.

“It’s mainly because I’m picky about what I eat,” Du Ruo declared.

Alright.

Then what was with the big boxes of board games?

Du Ruo said confidently, “I guess there will be no internet or electricity in the future, so we need some entertainment. Hey, do you play Werewolf?”

Bei Nuan was speechless: Two protagonists, I’m wearing an apocalyptic novel, right? Right?

There were more things in the space. Bei Nuan checked them and silently went over the timeline of the original book in her mind.

After the crazy shopping spree of the three of them, it was more than enough to rely on the supplies in the space to last until the end of the book.

It was already six o’clock, one hour before the fall of Ning City.

“Shall we leave the city now?” Bei Nuan asked Lu Xingchi.

Lu Xingchi also looked down at his watch.

He looked up and glanced at the five-star hotel next to him, his tone leisurely, “No hurry. I want to get a room and take a shower first.”

Bei Nuan was speechless.

Zombies were about to rush into the city, and you still want to get a room and take a shower?

You’re too hygienic, brother.
