Chapter 30: Chapter 30

“Little Three,” Bei Nuan called Little Three in her mind, “If I give up on the second stage of the Saintly Light mission, what will the punishment be?”

Little Three smoothly replied, “Didn't you see the last line in the mission description? If you don't do it, your personal space will be sealed for seven days and you won't be able to use it.”

The personal space sealed for seven days? That harsh?

Not being able to use the space for a week was no joke; the entire team's food, clothing, shelter, and transportation would become very troublesome.

“Then I'll do it, I'll do it!” Bei Nuan quickly said, “Anyway, I just need to raise a little Saintly Light value in front of him, no matter how much, right?”

Little Three replied in a "That's a good girl" tone, “That's right. Don't forget, you also have to make him say you're kind.”

Bei Nuan sighed.

Song Xi Wang's twelve hours were very different from Jiang Fei's previous twelve hours. Almost all of it was at night, and everyone needed to sleep, so there weren't many opportunities to raise her Saintly Light value.

She could only take it one step at a time.

The first step, as usual, was to stay within the target's line of sight.

Bei Nuan walked to the dining hall entrance and told the student on guard duty that she was going downstairs to find their Captain Song for something.

Song Xi Wang was downstairs.

It was almost bedtime, and the students of Shuida University were taking turns washing up. Those who weren't taking their turn were gathered in twos and threes, some chatting quietly, some playing.

Song Xi Wang, unusually, was not on duty and was sitting on his bedding with another boy wearing glasses.

They were both from the defense team and were discussing taking turns on duty tonight.

Song Xi Wang saw Bei Nuan coming over and greeted her cheerfully.

“Lu Xing Chi asked me to come and ask,” Bei Nuan falsely conveyed the order, “Do you need anything else?”

Song Xi Wang thought for a moment, “With the supplies you brought back today, we can last for a long time, so there's nothing we need for now, right?”

The boy with glasses pushed up the broken arm of his glasses and suddenly said, “There's only one thing. We don't have many common medicines here, and we might need them in the future.”

“You're short of medicine? That's great!” Bei Nuan was elated.

Under the bewildered gazes of the two boys, Bei Nuan cleared her throat and corrected herself, “What medicines do you need? Do you want to make a list? Maybe we can go out and help you find them.”

“Good!” The boy with glasses stood up, “Then I'll go and take stock of what medicines everyone needs.”

When Lu Xing Chi finished washing up and came out, he subconsciously looked around and found that Bei Nuan was gone again.

This time was even more peculiar; Jiang Fei was actually there.

Where could she have run off to alone?

Lu Xing Chi searched the small dining hall inside and out but couldn't find her, so he went downstairs.

As soon as he went downstairs, among so many people, he saw Bei Nuan at a glance.

Bei Nuan was sitting on a boy's bedding, their heads almost touching as they wrote and drew on a piece of paper.

The boy was quite handsome.

He seemed to be the captain of the defense team here, Lu Xing Chi thought, what was his name, Song something?

He stood out among the Shuida University students.

She really knew how to pick them.

Lu Xing Chi didn't go over, but crossed his arms, leaned against the stair railing, and watched them quietly.

After waiting for a while, he finally saw Bei Nuan raise her head, exchange a smile with the boy, say a few words, and stand up.

She held the paper, her head lowered as she hurried towards the stairs, her eyes never leaving the words on the paper.

Lu Xing Chi shifted slightly, blocking her path.

She was indeed unprepared and bumped into his chest with a thud.

Lu Xing Chi smoothly put his arm around her.

Bei Nuan looked up blankly, probably hit quite hard, and rubbed her forehead in a daze.

When she saw clearly who she had bumped into, she unexpectedly gave him a big, bright smile. “Lu Xing Chi, I just so happen to have something to ask you!”

“What is it?” Lu Xing Chi asked, not loosening his arm around her.

Bei Nuan seemed completely unaware that she was being held by him and held up the paper in her hand for him to see.

“Song Xi Wang said they still need some common medicines, so I asked them to make a list…”

“Song Xi Wang?”

Lu Xing Chi interrupted her, not looking at her paper.

“Yes, that's the captain of their Shuida University defense team, Captain Song.”

Bei Nuan turned around with difficulty in his arms, found Song Xi Wang who was looking this way, and waved at him with a grin.

Lu Xing Chi freed one hand, grabbed the top of her head, turned her head back to his direction, and asked indifferently, “What medicine?”

Bei Nuan pushed the paper filled with medicine names closer to him. “Just these, it's not too much, right? Let's go out and help them find them?”

It was already dark outside, and she still wanted to go out and help that Song Xi Wang find medicine.

Lu Xing Chi suddenly became awkward. “It's too late today, I want to sleep, let's talk about it tomorrow?”

Bei Nuan completely didn't expect him to refuse.

During the day, she had only mentioned wanting a hairdryer, and he didn't find it troublesome, specially driving to the city center. Now, for such a serious matter as finding medicine, he actually refused?

It definitely couldn't wait until tomorrow.

The second stage of the Saintly Light mission only lasted twelve hours, and the countdown was ticking by quickly. If she slept through the night and went out to find medicine tomorrow, she might not make it in time.

If the mission wasn't completed, having the space sealed for seven days was no joke.

Bei Nuan clutched his clothes, looked up at him, and softly whined, “Lu—Xing—Chi? Let's go, okay? Can we sleep later?”

Her eyes were full of pleading.

Lu Xing Chi looked down at her.

It was rare for her to act so sincerely and earnestly, but it was for someone else.

Lu Xing Chi reached out and lifted her chin: “Go find medicine? Fine. How do you plan to repay me?”

Bei Nuan had a strange feeling.

His actions were frivolous, and the words he spoke were also improper, but his eyes were not like that at all—cold, even with a hint of ferocity.

“What do you want?” Bei Nuan was embarrassed. “I'm not as good at cooking as Jiang Fei, so how about I wash all your shirts and iron them for you?”

She dared to mention Jiang Fei again.

First, it was Jiang Fei, and now there was this Song Xi Wang.

Did she think this journey was an otome game, conquering one after another?

Lu Xing Chi let go of her and turned to walk towards the iron gate.

“Where are you going?” Bei Nuan was puzzled.

“To find medicine.” Lu Xing Chi didn't look back.

He suddenly agreed again. Although Bei Nuan was puzzled, she quickly followed.

It was dark outside, and only the streetlights were on, casting heavy shadows of trees on the boulevard. The two quietly left Shuida University and got into the SUV.

Lu Xing Chi drove very fast, speeding along the deserted streets, not knowing where he was going.

The atmosphere in the car was strange.

Lu Xing Chi didn't speak, and Bei Nuan was also tactful enough not to make a sound, only looking out the window.

“Hey, Lu Xing Chi! There's a pharmacy over there, you passed it!”

Hearing her words, Lu Xing Chi didn't even slow down. He suddenly turned the steering wheel with his left hand and pulled the handbrake with his right.

The SUV, which had been speeding forward, instantly drifted 180 degrees in the middle of the road with his actions.

She often saw such drifting turns during car chase scenes in police and gangster movies, incredibly cool, but actually sitting in the car—

Bei Nuan felt like her heart was about to jump out of her chest.

Fortunately, there were no other cars on the road, otherwise, who knew how many people he would have killed.

Before the car had even stopped turning around, Lu Xing Chi slammed on the accelerator, and the SUV rushed towards the pharmacy's glass door like crazy.

Bei Nuan instinctively shrank back in her seat and covered her head.

Just as it was about to crash into the glass, the SUV screeched to a halt.

Lu Xing Chi quickly turned off the car and got out.

Unsurprisingly, the SUV's commotion had long attracted a large group of zombies, rushing from all directions along the road.

Lu Xing Chi didn't even bother with his crossbow today, just raising his right hand.

The SUV's trunk popped open automatically, and dense, long spikes suddenly shot out from the trunk, radiating outwards.

Hitting their targets and retracting, the rain of arrows was like a replay of the previous scene. They swished back into the trunk, the clinking sound of spikes entering their slots ringing out, and then silence returned in an instant.

Bei Nuan carefully got out of the car, her legs still weak from being tossed around like that.

She knew instinctively that the boss was on a rampage.

Fierce and ruthless, as if he was extremely dangerous.

Lu Xing Chi's expression was calm, showing no sign of anything unusual.

The pharmacy's glass door had long been smashed open with a large hole. He still reached out and held the door handle, opening the door for Bei Nuan and tilting his head towards the pharmacy, gesturing for her to enter.

There were no zombies inside, and the lights were on.

Bei Nuan saw that there were still quite a few medicines on the shelves, and others had come in and rummaged through them, leaving them in a messy state.

It was evident that there were still survivors in the city, quietly lurking in the corners, stealthily avoiding zombies, collecting supplies everywhere, and striving to survive.

Bei Nuan quickly took out the paper with the medicine list and searched for the medicines one by one.

Lu Xing Chi, after his outburst, seemed to have returned to normal. He glanced at her list and also helped her find the medicine.

The medicines Song Xi Wang and the others wanted were common ones for treating colds and diarrhea, as well as bandages and the like for disinfecting and dressing external injuries.

Bei Nuan carried plastic bags and quickly collected several large bags.

“I wonder where the antibiotics are.” Bei Nuan searched the shelves but couldn't find them.

“Antibiotics are prescription drugs; they should be inside.”

Lu Xing Chi took her to the counter and rummaged through it, but couldn't find them. He then opened the door to the small compartment behind.

There was a locked cabinet in the compartment. Lu Xing Chi pulled it open, and there were indeed quite a few antibiotics hidden inside.

Bei Nuan picked them out one by one according to the list. After finally finding them all, she also picked out some for herself and let out a sigh of relief.

“Found everything?” Lu Xing Chi asked.

“Yes, I found everything.” Bei Nuan checked the long list again and, satisfied, put the list and all the medicines into her space.

Just as she finished putting them away, a sudden force pressed her against the wall.

Lu Xing Chi firmly confined her in the small space between him and the wall.

His body was pressed tightly against hers, and Bei Nuan could almost feel the outline of his tense thigh muscles.

Bei Nuan had never seen him like this and was truly a little scared. “What are you doing?”

“The medicine has been found, so I'm here to collect my reward.” Lu Xing Chi said.

His tone was calm, but his eyes were dark and deep, like a hunter who had opened a trap, about to pull out the little rabbit that had accidentally fallen in, skin it, chop it into pieces, and boil it into soup.

The little rabbit expressed great fear.

“What reward? Isn't ironing your clothes good enough?”

Bei Nuan tried to press against the wall, wanting to create some space between them.

This hard-won gap immediately disappeared.

Lu Xing Chi leaned closer to her.

“No.” He said coldly, “I want something else.”

He lowered his head without hesitation, found her lips, and pressed down.

His lips crushed hers, then pushed deeper.

He pressed her firmly against the wall. This was a kiss that declared possession, not gentle at all, leaving no room for maneuver.

Like a hunter pinning his prey to the ground, or like a robber, unceremoniously marking out his exclusive territory.

He enveloped her, swept over her, pressed against her. His breath was fresh and cold, but his actions were forceful and undeniable.

A few seconds later, Lu Xing Chi felt that Bei Nuan was unusually quiet, without any movement, so he loosened his grip on her a little.

Her usually light pink lips were now a bright red from his torment, adding a touch of enchanting color to her incredibly pure face.

The unusual crimson made Lu Xing Chi unable to control his thoughts, wanting to do it again.

But when his gaze slid upwards, he found that her expression wasn't quite right.

Her eyelashes were curled, and those clear eyes were looking at him, pure and innocent, like a newborn lamb without any ability to resist.

There was also a hint of accusation, and a bit of grievance.

No one could remain calm under such a gaze after doing such a bad thing to her.

Lu Xing Chi's expression remained unchanged, but he felt a little uneasy inside.

From observing her micro-expressions and her subconscious actions, Lu Xing Chi felt that she shouldn't completely dislike him.

But the way she looked now didn't seem to be an act.

For the first time in his life, Lu Xing Chi doubted his observation skills.

Could he have misread her? Did she really hate him that much? Or…

“What's wrong? Was my kiss bad?” Lu Xing Chi softened his voice and asked.

Bei Nuan pushed him away and turned to leave.

Lu Xing Chi grabbed her arm, firmly holding her in his embrace again, not letting her go.

He held her, lowered his head against her forehead, and asked, “What's wrong? Do you really dislike it that much? Do you hate me?”

Bei Nuan said, “Not really.”

Lu Xing Chi just breathed a sigh of relief when he saw her pout. She continued, “But a first kiss isn't like that.”

Lu Xing Chi was confused. “A first kiss isn't like that?”

After thinking for a moment, he retorted, “This isn't the first kiss, right? Didn't we kiss last time at the Jiangcheng supermarket?”

“That doesn't count.” Bei Nuan dismissed the last incident with a single sentence.

Lu Xing Chi had a bit of a headache, holding her and humbly asking for advice, “Then what should a first kiss be like?”

Bei Nuan thought for a moment and finally said, “It should be an afternoon, the sun is very nice, in the library…”

Lu Xing Chi interrupted, “There are so many people in the library, are you sure?”

“I'm imagining an empty library.” Bei Nuan retorted.

“Okay, an empty library, go on.”

Bei Nuan tilted her head. “I'm sitting there reading, and the boy I like walks over, leans down next to me, and asks me, 'What are you reading?'…”

Lu Xing Chi thought: There are even lines???

“I show him the title of the book,” Bei Nuan continued to describe. “He lowers his head and reads with me, then turns my face…”

Kissing so suddenly?

But Lu Xing Chi didn't speak, held her tighter, and continued to listen to her.

“Then he kisses me. A touch kind of kiss, no tongue.”

Bei Nuan frowned and emphasized again indignantly, “No tongue!”

Lu Xing Chi pursed his lips, stared at her for a moment, then suddenly hugged her and walked out.

“Where are we going?” Bei Nuan was puzzled.

Lu Xing Chi replied, “To find a library.”

Lu Xing Chi drove the SUV back to Shuida University. The library was not far from the main gate, made of transparent glass, quite conspicuous.

Lu Xing Chi efficiently cleared the way with his crossbow, eliminating the unavoidable zombies, and took Bei Nuan upstairs.

Bei Nuan obediently followed him, feeling embarrassed the whole way: He actually took her to the library specifically for this kind of thing?

The second floor of the library was the reading room, very spacious. Half of it was filled with rows of bookshelves, and the other half, by the window, had many large tables.

The lights were on as usual. This place, which should have been packed with people at night, with no seats available, was now truly empty.

Lu Xing Chi checked the area, cleared out a few zombies, went to the bookshelf, randomly picked a book, and handed it to Bei Nuan.

Bei Nuan glanced at it.

Advanced Mathematics.

Seeing these three words, she lost her appetite, couldn't sleep, and even Lu Xing Chi beside her didn't seem handsome anymore.

Bei Nuan quickly returned it to its rightful place on the bookshelf and picked another one.

Lu Xing Chi led Bei Nuan to a spot by the window, made her sit down, and asked, “There's no sun now, will the moon do?”

Outside the floor-to-ceiling window was a bright half-moon, hanging high in the apocalyptic night sky.

Bei Nuan nodded.

Lu Xing Chi turned and left, then returned a moment later, coming up behind Bei Nuan and leaning down.

Bei Nuan suddenly realized that this person had a strong presence. Even without turning around, she could feel him approaching.

His body heat transmitted through his thin shirt, enveloping Bei Nuan. His aura was undeniably dominant, powerful, and aggressive.

“What are you reading?”

He looked over Bei Nuan's shoulder to see the book in her hand. He was so close that his breath brushed against Bei Nuan's cheek. His tone was casual and natural, not at all like he was reciting lines.

Bei Nuan's heart suddenly raced, her mind filled with the kiss he had just given her, pressing her against the wall.

Bei Nuan fumbled to show him the title.

Lu Xing Chi reached out a hand and casually held hers, helping her close the book.

“'A History of Ethics',” Lu Xing Chi glanced at the cover. “I took this course.”

He still held her hand, maintaining this posture, smiled slightly, and murmured in her ear, “My grades weren't bad. Want me to teach you?”

Bei Nuan turned her head, meeting his light, cold eyes, only now, there was a bit more warmth in them.

“Okay.” Bei Nuan softly agreed.

He curved his lips. “Then I'll collect a little… tuition first.”

His long eyelashes lowered, approaching Bei Nuan, and he gently kissed her lips.

Then he pulled back a little, as if tracing her eyebrows, nose, and finally her lips with his gaze, before gently kissing her again.

This was a light, fleeting kiss, a mere touch, but Bei Nuan's heart was beating so fast that she couldn't hear any other sounds.

Only the roaring of blood in her ears.

When he kissed her again, there was a bit more pressure on his lips, lingering tenderly on hers.

Bei Nuan felt a little dizzy and reached out, wrapping her arms around his neck.

Lu Xing Chi's body suddenly tensed, a low sigh escaping from his throat, and then Bei Nuan felt herself being lifted from the chair.

He picked her up, placed her on the table, wrapped one arm around her, supported himself on the table with the other, and leaned down, kissing her deeply.

He couldn't help but use his tongue again.

But she couldn't care less. Bei Nuan felt like a small boat, tossed about on the stormy sea of the apocalypse. He was the only stable presence, the only support, and the only hope.

The apocalyptic moonlight and the lights of the empty library swirled and twisted, merging into a dazzling vortex.

In a daze, Bei Nuan held him tightly.

He suddenly paused.

“What's wrong?” Bei Nuan asked drowsily.

“Nothing, just a zombie, it's gone now.” He said, then reluctantly returned to her lips.

After who knows how long, Bei Nuan pulled away from his lips and buried her head in his broad, solid chest to catch her breath.

“Shouldn't we go back?”

He gently stroked her hair with one hand. “Is this enough for your first kiss? Are you satisfied?”

“Mm.” Bei Nuan said softly. “Let's go?”

Lu Xing Chi didn't let go, asking, “Then what about the first kiss I imagined?”

Bei Nuan: ???

Bei Nuan was completely speechless: “Stop it, you're a guy, and you dreamed about what your first kiss would be like?”

Lu Xing Chi calmly replied, “I dreamed it up half an hour ago, is that not allowed?”
