Chapter 18: Chapter 18

"Reminder, you can only kiss on the face. Hair, arms, fingers, none of those count! Good luck!" Little Three said quickly.

The twelve-hour countdown popped up, and Little Three went silent again.

Hopeless.

Bei Nuan looked at the Holy Mother points she had painstakingly saved these past two days. If she didn't complete the task, they would all disappear.

Kiss an injured person.

There was no other choice but to kiss Jiang Fei. The only real injured person here.

Bei Nuan thought about his bandaged head.

Where should she kiss?

The key was that she had to say something so cheesy that it would make her toes curl.

If she said something like that to him, the misunderstanding would be as deep as the Mariana Trench, right?

Bei Nuan worriedly followed Lu Xingchi and unknowingly arrived on the third floor.

The third floor was not a supermarket. It was a row of independent shops, mainly selling food.

Lu Xingchi treated the zombies like nothing, easily clearing a path forward. Bei Nuan leisurely followed behind him.

Lu Xingchi first cleared out a dumpling restaurant. The two of them went to the back kitchen and found a gas stove. He turned on the gas.

A pungent smell rushed out.

The gas hadn't stopped. The people downstairs wouldn't have to drink blood for now.

Taking advantage of this free time, Bei Nuan tugged at his sleeve.

"Lu Xingchi, why did you ask me to come up here with you? Are you trying to find a chance to feed me to the zombies?"

These words were very childish, clearly pretending to be a little white rabbit deceiving a big bad wolf.

The big bad wolf glanced at the fake little white rabbit calmly. "To be able to ask such a question makes me wonder if you've been gassed silly."

Bei Nuan was a little embarrassed.

Of course, Bei Nuan knew in her heart that if he wanted to feed her to the zombies, he would have done it already. Lu Xingchi wouldn't have gone to such great lengths to find her a safe place, let alone run here to gather supplies.

"Then why did you bring me up here? You're fighting zombies in front, and you want me to be your cheerleader in the back?"

Lu Xingchi stopped.

"I want them to remember that you and I helped them clear the third floor. In the future, if resources become scarce and they have to throw out the extra people, they will remember your contribution and not think you're useless."

Bei Nuan understood what he meant and was instantly dumbfounded. "So you're planning to leave me here?"

Lu Xingchi's tone was calm and objective. "The people here are still reliable. There aren't many zombies around, there's food, the water hasn't been cut off, and you have enough in your space. Even if they run out of food, you won't starve to death."

He concluded, "I think it's safer to leave you here than to leave you alone in the small building."

Bei Nuan knew that his judgment was probably correct.

If this was the human base in S City, it seemed to have existed until the end of the book, never breached by zombies.

"I'm not alone. Du Ruo and the others said they wanted to stay with me," Bei Nuan reminded Lu Xingchi of the sad fact that he had become a lone commander.

"Du Ruo is too soft-hearted, and Jiang Fei's injury hasn't healed yet. Leaving the two of them behind won't do you any good. It'll just mean two more people for you to take care of."

Lu Xingchi didn't hold back when Du Ruo and the others weren't around.

As they were talking, there was a strange noise nearby.

Before Bei Nuan could react, Lu Xingchi pulled her abruptly.

Caught off guard, Bei Nuan fell into his arms, bumping into his chest.

His chest was too hard, and Bei Nuan's nose hurt from the impact.

The strange noise stopped abruptly. Bei Nuan looked up from his arms and saw a zombie lying a few steps away.

Lu Xingchi had put down his crossbow when he turned on the gas. The zombie wasn't killed by a nail but by a fork.

Bei Nuan thought to herself, Boss Lu is getting more and more amazing. How did he do that?

Lu Xingchi held Bei Nuan with one hand, his firm chest muscles evident beneath his thin shirt. His aura was cold and pleasant.

"It's okay." Lu Xingchi let go of his arm.

Bei Nuan steeled her heart.

One can't catch a wolf without risking their child.

Lu Xingchi suddenly realized that the two slender arms around his waist didn't loosen but tightened.

She held him tightly, looked up, her clear eyes filled with grievance. Her light pink lips flattened, and tears started to well up in her eyes.

She blinked, and two crystal-clear tears slid down, rolling down her flawless cheeks.

She protested in a small, aggrieved voice, "Lu Xingchi, I don't want to stay here, and I don't want to stay in that small building with Jiang Fei and the others. I want to follow you."

Lu Xingchi looked down at her.

Who could resist this? Lu Xingchi thought to himself.

No man would be able to refuse. They would all willingly offer her whatever she wanted.

Once she got it, she would change her face in a second and walk away.

That's what he was thinking, but his body didn't move.

What she said just now about not wanting to stay in the small building with Jiang Fei and the others made Lu Xingchi feel inexplicably happy.

"Lu Xingchi?"

She freed one hand and tugged at his shirt lightly, as if waiting for him to speak.

Lu Xingchi finally reacted.

He pressed his hand against the small of her back, pulling her closer.

He held her like this, lowered his head, and asked, "What benefits can you give me if I take you with me?"

His voice was deep and pleasant, his tone casual, as if he was asking the most natural thing in the world.

However, they were so close that Bei Nuan could feel his breath on her cheek, tickling her slightly.

Bei Nuan froze.

She would be crazy to provoke the big boss who had been single for so many years in a romance novel without a romantic interest.

She didn't answer for a long time, so Lu Xingchi made his own move.

He was still holding her with one hand, but he raised the other and cupped the back of her head, lowering his head further. His thin lips stopped just a hair's breadth from hers, and he inhaled.

Could he be serious?

Bei Nuan frantically pushed him away, quickly breaking free from his embrace and retreating several steps back, her face expressionless.

"Lu Xingchi, are you a pervert?"

Only then did Lu Xingchi smile faintly and leisurely pick up the crossbow beside him. "You were the one who provoked me first."

This person didn't respond to soft tactics at all.

Bei Nuan simply gave up on this tactic, sighed, and reasoned with him directly.

"Lu Xingchi, you just said that if Du Ruo and Jiang Fei stayed, it would just mean two more people for me to take care of. You meant that I'm actually better than them, right?"

Lu Xingchi walked out with the crossbow, casually taking care of a few zombies that rushed out, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.

"Then why would you rather take them with you than me?"

Bei Nuan caught up to him.

"What's most lacking in the apocalypse? Supplies. I am a portable source of supplies. You can collect but not carry. We are a match made in heaven."

Bei Nuan continued to analyze.

"It's not like you hate me either. If you really hated me, you wouldn't have said you'd come back for me. So what's your reason for not taking me with you?"

Lu Xingchi had a look on his face that said he wouldn't tell.

However, he did turn his head. "Bei Nuan, I think you're much more normal when you're reasoning with me seriously than when you're pretending to be pitiful. However, sometimes I really like to see you act coquettishly and pretend to be pitiful."

Bei Nuan looked at him in confusion.

Lu Xingchi looked at her with his light, clear eyes and replied indifferently, "Because it's cute, and I want to…"

Bei Nuan: ???

Lu Xingchi calmly added, "Knowing that it's an act makes me want to even more."

Bei Nuan was so angry that her stomach hurt.

Is this something you, a male lead with temperament and class, should be saying?

Lu Xingchi's eyes lit up with amusement as he enjoyed Bei Nuan's speechless and embarrassed expression. He didn't continue with the inappropriate topic and continued walking forward.

They searched the third floor room by room, clearing it out completely, before going downstairs with Bei Nuan.

In such a short time, the second floor had changed drastically.

Everyone was huddled in the corner, holding their heads in their hands. Some were sobbing softly, while three or five people stood by with knives in their hands, watching.

Captain Xing was lying in a pool of blood, and Teacher Xue hadn't been spared either.

Jiang Fei and Du Ruo were tied up and thrown on the ground.

A man sat on a folding chair next to them, pointing Captain Xing's gun at Du Ruo's head. Seeing Lu Xingchi return, he looked up and grinned at him.

"Put down the crossbow in your hand, or I'll kill your friend."

Lu Xingchi recognized him at a glance.

This was the punk who had tried to rob him in his past life and ended up being thrown out to feed the zombies.

The few people holding knives were his gang of hoodlums.

They hadn't encountered them on their way out of the supermarket this time, but they had bumped into them here.

They had guns in their hands, just like last time.

His gun was pointed at Du Ruo's temple. At this distance, Lu Xingchi wasn't 100% sure of winning.
